Serpentine belt installation

Hi guys,

I have a '96 jeep cherokee 6 cylinder 4.0L with power steering. I am unable to install a new serpentine belt. My tensioner is with the power steering bracket, I have "loosened" that as far as it will go along with the idler pulley.

Can anyone provide any information or tips? Please help, thanks

I have 2 13mm bolts that connect to the mount on the back loosened about 3 turns before they fall off, I can easily slide the p/s pump all the way to the left until the bottom tension bolt is at the end of the slide. I'll go out and take a look again, any other idea's?

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. What is wrong with my steering wheel?

That is strange because they are unrelated.

The power steering works using a pump that has a pulley and is turned by the Serpentine belt. Where you put the fluid, did it look like this?

The Brake Master Cylinder has a similar reservoir and also has a brake booster that uses vacuum power from the engine to give you a mechanical advantage. Both are shown here

I may have installed the serpentine belt incorrectly on my 1998 Jeep Wrangler with the 4.0 eng and AC. I am having problems with the engine overheating. Can you send me a diagram of the correct way to...

this is for a system with a/c. If you don't have a/c let me know and I will get you the correct one but i'm sure that you have a/c and power steering.

Replace serpentine belt for 6 cylinder 4wd

Loosen the power steering pump rear mounting bolts, pivot bolt and lock nut and then loosen the power steering pump adjusting bolt. Slip the belt on and tighten the adjusting bolt until you can push the belt in about one inch midway between the A/C and alternator pulleys. Then tighten the lock nut, pivot bolt and mounting bolts and that's it.

It helps to diagrams to go with the instructions. Get yourself factory service manual, promanuals.net has them for around 20$ or so.
