Ill condense it. Had in tank fuel pump and filter replaced about a year ago. Recently, began to be difficult to start. Would turn over but not fire up. Yesterday replaced the fuel filter that is on the frame rail under the driver. When I took off old filter had gas spill all over so I know that the fuel pump in tank is good due to gas in line. ( truck was parked on incline btw). When done replacing the filter I started truck up. Took a few attempts since line was not pressurized. After third attempt started up and ran for a few minutes. Today went out to run errands, was difficult to start like before. After a min or two of trying, instrument cluster went dead, none of the gauges moved. Turned key off and tried again. Nothing. I checked the batt with a mutimeter saying 12 volts. I got the buzzer going off when key is in ignition and door is open. Checked wires going to battery and poked around the op to see any loose wires. Everything looks good. Tried checking my chilton book, not to helpful in troubleshooting electrical. Any help apprecated.
You either need to jump the vehicle and check the voltage coming out of the alternator on the little stud where the wire bolts to it (should be around 14.5v at idle) or remove the alternator and take it to your local autoparts store and have it tested. you may also want to have the battery checked because it may have 12v but little or no cold cranking amps. Also be sure to remove and thoroughly clean your battery cable connections at the battery with baking soda/water mix and a wire brush. Thanks for using fixya!! good luck

I had a new one put one about 1.5 years ago. When it was running yesterday the batt gauge said 14 volts.
