My 1987 dodge ram i bought last night got me home, about 45 miles fine. i stopped to put gas in it, and it started back up fine, but i took it home, and while pulling into the parking spot, it died. i can hear clicking in the starter relay, and thought it could be bad, its sunday, and there are no autozones or anything like that around. i figured i could try post to post on the starter, it didnt do anything. i need to get it running soon, i am borrowing a car for work, but it wont last too long.

Sounds like you have lost power to the sender, or just a bad sender, which is located in the tank unfortunately. Try to find the the wires going to the gas tank and test them for power with a stab light.

I had the same problem with my 88 d150 the first time it was the vacum lines and the second time it was the fuel line leaking so check both alos make sure ur fuel pump is working and check ur fuel filter it might be clugged
it could be a number of things. check your ball joints. i had the same problem with my dodge, i replaced the ball joints and it stopped. your wheels could also need alignment.
I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9 liter in it, i couldnt keep it running when i stopped at stop signs, the two things i tried, was taking off the air cleaner and sprayed carb cleaner into the intake manifold with the engine running, using the carb cleaner and the throttle linkage to keep it running, before i did this i noticed the throttle valves were dirty, so I inspected the air filter housing and saw it was cracked in multiple places. The second thing i did was reset the computer using a scanner then took my truck out on the highway and drove at least 50 MPH for at least a mile which re-learned the computer. I hope this helps you, it sure worked for me.
this problem is not unusual ,without seeing the car as i have no product knowledge with american built cars as such, but if it has one coil and not a coil pack then its the ignition module ,these often go just as you describe .Stop car to pop in shop and then no go,this is not the dealers fault they just pack up ,ask dealer nicely and no doubt they will send someone around to put a new one in for you .
