Power door locks dont work on my 2000 dodge grand caravan motor is 3.0 my friend says its my bcm going bad because door locks will unlock one day but not lock than lock another day and not unlock tired of putting money in this van please help
2 things I would try before replacing an expensive BCM. Disconnect your battery for 5 minutes or so, then reconnect, and see if that helped at all. I have heard in some cases it worked successfully. If that doesn't cure it, I would go to the plug on the BCM itself, (with battery disconnected) and pull the plug off, inspect it, and clean it & mating pins on BCM very thoroughly with contact cleaner or similar electrical cleaner. Add a little di-electric grease to connection & put it back together nice & tight & see what happens. The BCM is usually located on passenger side in kick panel area,(by right foot when sitting) either behind kick panel or above it.
Sounds like your friend knows what he's doing, so I will not question his diagnosis, and if it did sound like I was, I apologize. Just wanted to make sure all avenues were covered before saying, "sorry, you will need that new expensive part." Hope you & they understand, that over the 37 years of doing this type of work, and especially on motorhomes now, I have heard some pretty wild stories about how my neighbor said, or my friend said, the guy camping beside me said, it was this, or that. Hundreds if not thousands of dollars later, they find out it was a simple $2 fix. Such doesn't appear to be the case here though. Good Luck. P.S. if you do a little research, you may find a reliable source for the BCM in aftermarket supplier of these. If they don't ask a lot of questions like VIN# I'd question the quality of the part.
Not necessarily, that BCM controls so many body functions, it's ridiculous ,but a proper scan done by a good & experienced technician, which may require it go to dealer, will confirm that it is, or is not the problem.
Your fuse panel diagram should tell you, if not your owners manual, what they are for. Couple of things do come to mind though, ( I guess I'm kind of like you, eliminate every other possibility before you commit, -ha-ha, so be it! ) Have you double checked all connections & fuses are clean & wiggled, at the power distribution box under the hood by the battery? Also, the part about working one day & not the next, do you remember if weather was different in any cases, such as wet?
Clarification on something else. When they quit working, does that mean from all sources such as key fob, door switch at drivers door, each individual switch?

you can here the relay clicking but thats it
also the safty locks still work fine after hiting a speed of 15 miles an hour all doors autolock
that is correct just can hear the relay click
another thing when the locks do work lock or unlock you have to hold the button in for awaile
this is correct you can just here the realy clicking
my friend did clean it with parts cleaner and still had the same problem that is why he said the bcm is going bad
i personaly dont think thats the problem because wouldnt everything that it controls stop working also
thank you for trying to help i was just tring to find a quick fix i guess ill have to invest in a bcm
one more thing is there more then one relay for the door locks that i might be overlooking i can see three small squar ones and one big one in the fuse panel thanks
when the door locks stop working they dont work on any door when they do work they work on all doors the funny thing is my gas gage was going nuts to it would read from 1/2 to full tank but below 1/2 it would go right to empty so my friend replaced fule sending unit and the fule system works all around but the empty alarm would ring as if the tank was empty and go right back to were the gauge was 1/2 3/4 or what ever thats why he said it was the bcm
When you say relay, as in under dash, but no noise at all from door area, like a slight click or thump?
When you say they lock one day & not the next, do they at least try to lock, like at least making a noise?
all locks always open seldom lock....I believe it is a bad relay....where is it?
