I Have A 1998 Mercury Villager, Is The Bendix On The Starter Supposed To Pop-up when starting engine?

I Have A 98 Mercury Villager. And, It Just Died, While Driving Home 6 Days Ago. It Will Not Start Back, Won't Do Anything. So, I Removed The Starter to jump test it from a car battery. The Bendix Spins Fine, Like Its Okay. But...The Bendix/Cylinder Does Not Slide Pop out into the crank shaft to turn over the Engine. Is The Bendix/Cylinder Supposed To Raise??

Yes, the starter drive should pop out so it can engage with the flywheel teeth

SOURCE: my piston 6 miss fire.

Could be a lot of things,
Check spark plug wire
Spark plug
If those are good, get a compression test done to see how the cylinder is.
You could also have a bad fuel injector, which will not deliver fuel.

How Do I Troubleshoot The Alternator On My 1998 Mercury Villager??

The bendix [cylinder ] you talk about should spin out to conntact the starter ring on the flywheel .If it is not then the starter moter wants checking out at the garage The bendix should be on the shaft closer to the starter motor, not on the end that is the end of the stroke . But some starters pull in to the starter ring and have to be installed by lifting over the starter ring on installing it .Pull in type starter motor will have the gears on the inside of bendix .[cylinder] And throw out type will have the gear on the end of the bendix [cylinder] hope i have not confused you .

Wont start

Do you mean the starter motor runs but the engine will not crank? If so the problem is at you starter there is a small gear that makes the conection between the starter motor and the engine. Some times you can tap the starter with a hammer while someone try's to start it and it will loosen the gear and start. if this works change the starter.
