Hello ryk786, i/m not a hundred percent certain, but I think the output speed sensor is located at the back of the transmission. With the pan removed, if you look at the valve body and see the EDS valves and connectors, look about 2 inches back toward the end of the case and you should see a connector by itself. There should be a retaining torx bolt and spring holding the sensor in place. After installing the new sensor, do not over-tightend the bolt. The torque should be around 5-6 Nm.

Where is the oil sending unit located on the 1998 BMW 740il

It is attached to your oil pan, it is a flat sensor. Google "oil level sender E38" and select images, you will see what you are looking for.

Indictor light on dash is on my car doesnt take off in first gear 1998 740il bmw

Sounds like your car is in limp mode, which means its stuck in 2nd gear, basically you can get to where your going and that's bout it..problem is that there is bout 50 different reasons as to why this could happen, most common reason is a faulty speed sensor, does your speedometer work?, I believe there are 2 speed sensors on that car, if your speedo is working it may be the input speed sensor, the output speed sensor also runs the speedometer.. To be safe you need to have the codes scanned in the trans, if you have speed sensor codes you got lucky cause that's cheap compared to what it could be...

I have 2001 bmw 740il and when i cold start my car in the morining, engine makes very loud roring sound and then calmes down.

This is due to a clogged oil pan filter and gunked up lifters. Remove oil pan and clean screen filter. Use and internal engine cleaning solution before your next few oil changes to clean valves and lifters.

Speed Sensor Failed

I had the same problem, I first replace the output speed sensor, no fix, then the input sensor. Both located under air filter box. Easier to get to all the screws if you remove the battery. Input sensor is facing forward towards the frond end. The output sensor is under the cables linkage, which is directly under the air box facing the firewall.

Think the code was 0715
