The code is reset when the car is restarted, second fuel quantity is dispersed due to fuel requirements from the rpm registered by the ecm,you have a ground in the tachometer system which is not sending a signal to the ecm to let it know how fast the vehicle is travelling check between the dash cluster and the ignition switch for a false contact .knowing where to look first is key to solving your problem.

this problem could be caused by the mass air flow censor, i had the same problem with my car. it is really pricey at the dealer so you might want to check elsewhere for this part. I found one at a scrap yard for 85% less that the dealer and i also got life time warranty, the dealer does not offer any warranty on this part.
SOURCE: error code P0340
lionelloopho: P0340 is a Cylinder signal not getting to the ECM, momentarily while the engine is being cranked.
According to Nissan's diagnostic chart, the recommend checking the following: Harness connectors for the cam positioning sensor,
The sensor it self, The starter, for excessive draw.
The battery for weakness.
Nissan did have a service bulletin out on hard cranking problems.
The symptoms include difficult starting ans spark knock (very sharp rattling sound)
The bulletin reference number is: NTB95-090 You can check with Nissan because the solution warrants the replacement of the ECM.
You may have to tell a little white lie and tell them you have been living with the problem for quite a while because no one has been able to solve the problem and you have just now heard of this bulletin.
Good Luck and let me know how you make out, I'm pretty sure this is the solution.

the dash voltage egulator probably went bad. First, check the battery & make sure you have 12 volts, not running. Check it again running & you should see about 14.5 volts. If that's good,I'd replace the guage assembly.
SOURCE: 2003 Cuts off when hot, will not start untill cool
My 2003 nissan sentra would get hot and stall out even in middle of highway doing 70 mph. The guages would go up and down. Would not start up all the time after stalling. had to cool down first. Nissan said it was head gasket, and wanted to charge 1000.00 for the job. I took to local dealer who charged me 550.00. Works fine ever since. Nissan dealer said they do like 3 head gaskets a week on the sentras. They have crappy ones in original parts. They have not recalled though.

Hi the same happen to me ... i solve it like this
Open the trunk, locate the fuses compartment box, open it
Read the location of the fuse under the tap of the fuses compartment box
It should be "15A Fuel Pump" fuse so exchange it for a new one
You can buy it from wal mart (the little ones, not the standard regular one ok...) or you can buy it from the dealer ... wich i did but it cost me 3.35 dlls and a box in walmart is cheap ....
have a nice day !!!
