4x4 High Light stays on all the time

The 4x4 High light stays on all the time on my 2008 Ford F-350. It is equipped with the 6.2 diesel, manual hubs, and manual transfer case.

Sometimes the electric hubs are corroded and once they are engaged they don't release.
Another possibility (and I have never disassembled one) is the button you push to activate the 4x4 is stuck.
You might try to look in your owners manual for a fuse to the 4x4 unit. If you pull the fuse a stuck button would not matter.

Encoder motor located on the transfer case is usually the problem. It is the motor that shifts the transfer case.

chk the linkage under the truck for any foriegn objects. block the tires and have a friend put light pressure on the shifter while you lightly tap the linkage.

SOURCE: 2002 ford f150 4x4 manual transfer case vacum

The vacuum shift solenoids have power to one side of them at all times.
The GEM applies ground to them, to activate them, after the shift on the fly position confirm from the trans case.
The power to both should be on the White w/ Light Blue stripe wire.
Ground to them ( from the GEM ) is
2WD : Gray w/ Black stripe wire
4WD : Red.

The only TSB I know of is for the 04-06 MY trucks, for the IWE solenoids ( the kind without the water shield ).

Did you jack up the front end ( and support correctly ) turn the key to the run position ( do not start ), and shift into 4WD, and check the front drive shaft ?
If the shaft still turns, the problem is in the transfer case, if not you are looking in the correct place.
The GEM will not signal a vacuum solenoid until the transfer case has shifted into 4L or 4H ( 4 switches that are the return signal to the GEM ). Could be a problem with the connector on the transfer case ( think it is a 8 or 10 pin connector ) to the contact plate position switches in the trans case.

There is a manual front ale cable, but I would think you would want to confirm why the GEM is not signalling the shift solenoids, prior to replacing them

code p2033 refers to exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor 2 bank 1 circuit high === causes wiring short to ground --EGT sensor . check the wiring for shorted / broken wires and replace the sensor . If there is no problem with the sensor or the new sensor fails early I would be checking the fuel settings on the pump ( pump timing and cc ratings ) as a hot diesel exhaust indicates over fuelling or pump timing too far advanced.

2008 ford f-350 diesel lariat, is fuse #22 the only fuse that controls the tail lights and license plate lights? I checked fuse and it is good . Is there a relay that could be bad or dislodged?

MOST LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS ARE MARKER LIGHTS...LABELED.....(MK LIGHT)

You need to crawl under the truck and inspect each brake line for leaks. You also need to check wheel cylinders and calipers. The chances are pretty good that you will find a small leak in a line or a wheel cylinder leaking, pay close attention to the rear of the truck because that is normally where these problems occur. Hope this helps.

your front hubs are probably going out thats the noise you are hearing and thats why your 4x4 lights probably on and that being said your abs sensors are part of that hub assembly so the sensors are probably full of metal, they are a magnetic sensor just jack the front of your vehicle up and spin the tire by hand and you will find the bad one the drivers side usually goes first, but my as well do both at the same time

In 2WD but 4x4 light on also front axels and hubs stay engaged

youve probably have got a bad hub. with an open front differintial it will spin the tires in the air but not when torgue is applied.
