Waterpump replacement requires removal and replacement of your timing belt. Because of this it is not your typical do it yourself repair. Engine timing is critical, and not having your belt set correctly can lead to catastrophic engine damage.

You can purchase a service manual at your local parts store to get an idea of what is involved, however this being an interference engine you should leave this job to a professional if you are uncertain enough about your abilities that you need to ask for help on it. The cost to replace the waterpump is far far less than the cost to repair a engine that had an incorrectly set timing belt.

When to change timing belt on 2003 mitsubishi galant

Most timing belt suppliers recommend 50k to 60k miles for replacement. Your Galant has a interference engine meaning that if the belt fails your will incur major engine damage up to and including replacement of the entire engine.

So if you have over 60k miles on the car go ahead and change the belt, and while you have it apart replace the water pump.

Someone told me to change out the timing belt and water pump and everything included (kit) but at what mileage or is this just a scam. it is a mitsubishi galant 2001 4cyl.

WELL TO BEGIN WITH, THE TIMING BELT & WATER PUMP NEED TO BE INSPECTED AT ABOUT 100,000 MILES. IF THEY ARE FOUND TO BE BAD ENOUGH THEN CHANGE THEM. THE WATER PUMP HAS WHAT ARE CALLED WEEP HOLES. THESE WEEP HOLES LET YOU KNOW THAT THE WATER PUMP IS BAD INTERNALLY, BEFORE IT LOCKS UP. THE BEST WAY TO CHECK THE TIMING BELT IS TO REMOVE THE COVER.

My 01 Mits Galant starts and stalls immediately. Then other times it starts and runs fine. Then back to start and stall. Replaced fuel pump, same thing. Any suggestions?

1. change the fuel filter.
2. buy a bottle of sea foam from your local auto parts store or lucas either one is the best. for bad fuel and water and trash.

I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante with a 3.5 L V6 engine. I need instructions on how to change the timing belt. Can anyone help me ?

It would be to hard to tell and show you over the computer.
The best and easiest way for you is to buy a Chilton manual for your car at the autoparts store. The book runs about $20
This book is a do-it-yourself bible. It will show you everything you need to know on how to do maintenance and repair on your vehicle.
