How to replace waterpump on 1993 toyota camry?

  • 1

Place the drain pan under the radiator petcock. Open the petcock and allow the antifreeze to drain. If the drain pan is clean and the antifreeze is less than five years old, you can reuse the antifreeze.

  • 2

Place the block of wood on the floor jack. Slide the jack under the engine and raise the engine slightly. Unbolt and remove the front engine mount. On the 4A-GE engine, loosen the power steering and air conditioning belts by loosening the adjusting nuts or bolts on the slider bracket and sliding the accessory toward the engine. Remove the belts.

  • 3Loosen the water pump pulley bolts with the appropriate socket. Loosen the alternator locking bolt and the pivot nut. Push the alternator toward the engine to loosen the tension on the belt. Lift the belt off the pulleys.

  • 4

Remove the four bolts on the water pump pulley using the appropriate socket. Remove the water pump pulley. Disconnect the water inlet and bypass hoses from the inlet pipe using a screwdriver or pliers, depending on the type of clamp used.

  • 5

Disconnect the water inlet pipe by removing the two clamp bolts and the two nuts behind the pump. Remove the inlet pipe. Remove the O-ring from the back of the pump. Remove the mounting bolt on the oil dipstick tube. Remove the tube and the dipstick. Plug the hole with a rag so that debris doesn't get into the crankcase and contaminate the oil.

  • 6

Remove the upper and middle timing belt covers. Remove the water pump retaining bolts and pull the pump off the engine. Take care not to get any antifreeze on the timing belt.

  • 7

Place the O-ring in its groove on the block. Install the water pump and tighten the bolts to 11 ft.-lbs. of torque. Reinstall the timing belt covers. Make sure they are seated properly and not touching the timing belt.

  • 8

Coat a new oil dipstick O-ring with engine oil. Slide it on the dipstick. Reinstall the dipstick and the retaining bolt. Tighten the bolt to 82 in.-lbs. of torque. Place a new O-ring on the inlet pipe for the water pump. Reinstall the inlet pipe. Attach the clamps and bolts that hold the pipe in place. Tighten the bolts to 8 ft.-lbs. of torque.

  • 9

Reconnect the inlet and bypass hoses to the pipe. Install the water pump pulley. Tighten the four pulley bolts enough to hold everything in place. Reinstall all the accessory drive belts and adjust the tension properly. You should be able to turn the belts 90 degrees when they are at the correct tension. The water pump should resist turning. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 17 ft.-lbs. of torque. Reinstall the engine mount. Tighten the petcock on the radiator. Refill the radiator.

Trying to replace waterpump on a 96 suzuki swift but cant get the bottom pully off to remove the timing cover to get at the waterpump off. we cannot get a good angle to crack the nut. the frame is in the...

    1. Remove air filter to give you more room to play
    2. Loosen alternator and alternator tensioner. Alternator tensioner bolts to water pump so that bolt will need to come out.
    3. With the alternator loose, the main drive belt should be loose and be able to be removed, do this.
    4. Loosen the tensioner bolt for the air conditioner, on the underside of the engine. Losen the nut on the air conditioner tension wheel. The tensioner wheel should now slide up and down freely, allowing removal of the air conditioner belt.
    5. Remove the 4 x 10mm bolts on the water pump pulley. Remove the water pump pulley.
    6. Remove the 4 x 10mm bolts on the camshaft pulley. This is the main pulley that all the belts connect to. There is a large 17mm bolt in the middle of this pulley that does not need to be removed. (Crankshaft Bolt).
    7. The camshaft pulley should slide off, however you will probably have no clearance (because of the crankshaft bolt) to remove the pulley. The pulley has to be removed.
    8. Place a jack under the sump, use a piece of wood to protect the sump. Jack the sump up 1/2 inch. Undo the two 14mm bolts in the engine mounts. When the two left hand engine mount bolts are out, lower the jack slowly until you can slide the camshaft pulley out.
    9. Remove the plastic timing belt cover.
    10. You should now see the timing belt, remove the timing belt tensioner pulley, being careful not to move the timing belt wheels.
    11. Undo the bolts holding the water pump.
    12. Water pump should come off, water will come out if you haven't drained it.
    13. Scrape off gasket.
    14. Install new water pump.
    15. Reassemble in reverse order.

    Replace alternator

The alternator belt on the 1999 Dodge Caravan also controls the air conditioner compressor, the water pump and the power steering pump. The belt is called a serpentine belt, and it is designed to fit around all of the accessory pulleys at the same time. As the belt travels around each accessory pulley, it enables the accessory to operate. Once the belt is damaged, cracked or frayed, you should change it before it breaks. If that happens, each of the accessories will stop working.

Open the hood and prop it up so that it does not fall. Engage the parking brake.

Inspect the top surface of the fan shroud for the serpentine belt routing diagram. Follow the routing instructions on the diagram to install the new belt.

Locate the serpentine belt self-adjusting tensioner on the front of the engine. The tensioner is directly below the alternator. Use the bolt that connects the tensioner pulley to the tensioner arm to rotate the tensioner.

Turn the tensioner device counterclockwise to move the tensioner. This will relieve the tension from the belt. Once the belt has enough slack in it, slide the belt out from under the tensioner pulley.

Lift the belt off each accessory pulley. Slide the belt around the fan blades and out of the engine area.

Lay the old belt next to the new belt to ensure that the new belt is the correct width and length. Slide the belt around the fan blades and around the crankshaft pulley on the bottom of the engine.

Follow the belt routing diagram to position the belt around the air conditioner compressor pulley, the power steering pump pulley, the water pump pulley and the idler pulley. Once the belt is routed inside each accessory pulley, inspect the belt to make sure that it is securely inside the pulleys.

Crank the 1999 Dodge Caravan for 10 to 15 seconds to completely seat the belt ribs in the grooves on each accessory pulley. Shut the engine off and close the hood.

If the belt routing diagram for the 1999 Dodge Caravan is missing, use a pen and a notepad to draw the exact routing of the old belt and use it when installing the new belt.

My belt is making a whistling screeching noise. i used belt conditioner and soap both makes it go away as soon as applied but it keeps coming back.

If you have changed the belt I would take it off to see if any of the bearings in a pulley may be going out.You can do this by spinning the pulleys on everything. Spin the water pump, the alt,air compressor. See if they make noise or feel rough while spinning them by hand. Replace whats bad.

How to change the fan belts on 1993 Nissan Quest Minivan

First go to Nissan's help forum page. Use this link: http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/index.php

You can get a free login and download up to two files a day using the free login. You want the MA maintenance file of your vans manual. This will include the belt tensions and placement.
You will need to remove the plastic cover on the passenger side of the engine to be able to access the belt tensioners on the alt. and power steering pump. Nissan likes to use the same basic tensioners on most of their stuff. The air pump and air conditioner use idler pulleys, you loosen the bolt in the middle of the pulley enough to allow the pulley to move, no more. there is a bolt with its length toward the center of this pulley, when you loosen this bolt the pulley will start to move down and loosen the belt. repeat this process for both the air pump and the air conditioner. The alt. and power steering you loosen the bolt that secures the tensioner, than you can back off the long bolt in the tensioner to loosen and remove the belts.

I usually check each new built with the old one for length and label its sleeve by function as I take each one off. Makes matching them up when you put them back on much easier.
