Sounds like the first gear in the automatic transmission is out.

SOURCE: transmission problem

Two possibilities, one the valve body needs to be replaced. This is very common, and the usual symptoms are delay into reverse, and sometimes second also. The other is a loose input shaft nut. This has become more common on the 2000 to 2002 models, im not sure why though. The nut can be accessed by removing the transmission end cover. The input shaft is the one on the left, it uses a thin wall 23mm socket. The old nut should be removed and discarded, install a new nut and torque to spec (yes this is very important) then reinstall the end cover which is actually harder than it sounds. In the case of the valve body you need to drive normally up to 20 miles to reset the transmission adaptive settings. The input shaft nut does not require this, but it is a good idea. To clear the adaptives you will need to disconnect the battery for about 10 min.

SOURCE: I have an automatic 1997 Ford ranger problems putting into gear.

as you are shifting you feel the lever snap into gear wich that is where that gear actualy is but you are seeing the indicator on the column is not on the chosen gear that means the indicator on the column needs some adjustment to match the indicator with the lever position

SOURCE: car will not shift into gear

Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.

Why does my brake wire burn in half on my 2000 mustang?

Very strange. If circuit is pulling enough amps to burn up wire, one would expect fuse to blow. Is it possible something else is heating the wire, such as heater vent hose leaking, courtesy lamp bulb too close, other such? Could be that Hot Foot you are driving with, lol.

Our 2000 Mustang continually needs to be battery jumped. Took to shop, they said not battery or starter. They said it's Ford car alarm that is draining battery. Now what?? How do I disconnect

If the shop could find the problem, why
can they not resolve it ?

Need a different shop, if there is such
a place these days, that can actually
fix something

My 2000 mustang has a 3.8l automatic transmission and won't go into gear.. any gear.. just revs.. reverse works fine.. what might be the problem?

It could possibly be a problem with your torque converter in your ******. Its definitly worth taking it to a transmission shop to get it checked out.

2008 FORD MUSTANG 6 CYLINDER AUTOMATIC. IT HAS NO POWER WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM STOP. THE TACH RPMS GO UP BUT CAR MOVES SLOW. wHEN i SHIFT TO #3 SPEED IT WILL TAKE OFF. THEN i CAN SHIFT INTO AUTOMATIC...

If you don't want to take it to a trans shop etc.then
your not going to get it repaired

If you keep driving it,then the trans will have to come out
& be rebuilt.

You may have a bad Trans Solenoid Pressure Control Pack

If you have been driving it with it slipping, your pretty much done

Car starts fine and goes in reverse fine

First thing is check your transmission fluid level. 2nd thing is, if you haven't changed filter & fluid in transmission in a while, spend the money & do it, or have it done.
