Get into neutral w dead battery - 850 Volvo Cars & Trucks

First explain why it won't go into neutral. This may be the problem for no start.

on the left side on you shift stick is a small cap. remove the cap and push the button with a key and shift to neutral. make sure you have the parking brake ready to prevent the car from rolling.your food brake wont hold good if the engine don't run
the best is to replace or recharge the battery.

Have you tried manually pressing the neutral safety switch? Not a 100% where it is if your shifter is on the column but the floor shifters usually top right or mid ways along the gear selector, something like a small square that pops out ive seen people release it with a small screw driver.

I am not sure about the Impala but the SAAB (also made by GM) has a small slot near the shifter where you can insert your key or screw driver (something flat) to release it from park when the car cannot be powered up.

next to shifter arm, is a small port, open and use your finger and press down, this will let you move the shifter to neutral

Its a electric solonoid so charge the battery up first or put a booster box on it just to get it into neutral

Since the car is automatic, it becomes quite difficult to shift gears with a dead battery. Plus, if parked in a garage, there is no room to jump start the car by using another vehicle. If you face such a dilemma, do the following:
1. The gear or shifter has a cap on its bottom - you have to wedge it open (it can possibly break)
2. Now you will see a small hole, put a screwdriver or any slim object in it, and press and hold the button within
3. You will hear a click-now the gearbox has been unlocked
4. Shift to neutral
5. If the shifter cap has broken, get a new one from the aftermarket.

If the battery is dead,it is unsafe to jump it

AGAIN --- DO NOT JUMP A DEAD BATTERY

Put a battery charger on it

u can get someone to hook up there car to jump it or at least get power to put in neutral.
