Alternator working but getting no charge back to battery and engine stops when lead taken off battery. I need to know if it is a fuse but have no fuse diagram. Oh van is a vh61 1988. I took out the heater breaker and used it in another breaker socket that had b/whte wire nd whte wire quite chunky worked for bout a min then craped out again. Any help much appreciated!
Sounds like the 100A alternator fuse, top right of the engine bay (on my N reg HiAce) it unbolts from the back of the fuse box.
If it was me I would take the alternator off take it somewhere and have it tested because it sounds like it has a bad voltage regulator in it
yes that sounds good for the alternator amps, have you checked your drivebelt? and also check the battery for a bad cell if one cell is bad it will not take a charge and hold it
the amps are really close it should be somewhere around 14 amps replace your drive belt and look at it to see if it is glaze and if it is then the belt was slipping

Hi, I've cheaked the alt and I am getting 12 - 15 amps from it when the engine is running is this ok?
Hi, I've taken the alternator to get tested and it's all good also battery is brand new. When I took off the alternator and placed it back in I seem to be running (from the battery) now 13 amps with engine off and 13.8 engine on so it could have been drive belt! I thought the drive belt was preety tight the first time though but then again it's an old beast and all I've got to cheak deflection is a stick!
Any idea if this is the proper amp rate it should be throwing out?
Will do.
