Greetings All: I am a locksmith and I was called to a customers' home for a key that was stuck in the ignition. Upon my arrival I found that the key was stuck between the ACC position and the locked position. I tried moving through the gears on the automatic transmition as well as turning the steering wheel and rocking the car back and fourth but to no avail, no success. I then took a hammer and using the side of the hammer I lightly tapped on the key to see if that might free up whatever was binding it up. No luck. I then took a pair of vice grips and turned the key back and fourth and from side (lightly of course) and I was able to get the oil lights to come on. The key only turned a hair for this to happen but nevertheless I was ablr to stick a hook pick up on top of the housing and depress the active retainer button and remove the cylinder. Now here's the dilemma: The new lock won't be here until the morning but even so, once I put the new lock in I still won't be able to turn the car off. I can get it started but I have to pull the two main fuses (alternator & battery) to stall the vehicle. I also removed the ignition switch to expose the tail piece on the opposite side of where the key goes into the ignition and I can't turn it from that side either which is indicative that the ignition switch is good. Can someone please offer me some assistance so I can finish the job? Thank you to all. Glenn R. Kraniske Universal Lock & Key
If you pull the ignition switch you should be able to turn it with a screwdriver and either startor turn off the car. If the switch won't turn than the switch is the problem.
If the switch turns and the new lock cylinder still won't turn than you need a new lock cylinder housing.

Im thinking your going to be ok as far as warranty repair,if your dealers service dept is insensitive, call Saturn assist @ 1.800.553.6000 On to the ignition switch ....separate colum halves with #2 screwdriver> access ignition housing and look for trip slot on top side of cylinder>use pocket size screwdriver to trip button in slot while in ACC position and pull out...good luck

Put some pressure on the steering wheel in one direction or the other this may take the pressure off the cylinder itself and allow you to do what is needed...hope this works.
SOURCE: key wont come out of ignition in 1998 saturn sl2
I had difficulty with my key in my 98 sl1 too but I discovered that I just had to push on the shifter until you hear it click, then you could jimmy the key a bit to get it out.
SOURCE: 94 Saturn...Stopped the car and ignition key stuck
Unfortunately this model of saturn is known for this problem. Try tapping the head of the key lightly with a small hammer and then while shaking the wheel back and forth try to turn the key. The only known permanent fix is key cylinder repalacement.
