On my 2006 you set the odometer to the normal odometer mode using the button on the dash. When you get that setting, hold the button down until the display flashes. Once it begins to flash, let go of the button and then push it again. The light should then go out.

Did the display flash after you held the odometer switch for a few seconds?

It hasnt been a month since the oil was changed in my 2011 Toyota Camry and the maintance required was reset. Now the maintaince required has now came back on. What would the the problem since I know

Take it back to the oil change place. Or check the oil. If a seal is leaking or oil filter was not tightened or put on correctly oil may have leaked out and you will blow your engine!

Is is there any oil leaking in garage or driveway or where you park?

The red triangle warning light just came on. What does it mean?

All it means is 5000 miles have passed since the oil change reminder was reset. You can reset it your self. Look in the Camry Hyrbid Owners Manual on Page 148 for the Resetting the engine oil maintenance data procedure. Make sure you have the A trip odometer showing when you follow along.

Oil change reminder light phenomenon

No it is not possible. The manufacturer has engineered the vehicle so I suppose they know when the maintainence should be performed. Do you need assistance with resetting the oil=life monitor?

2002 toyota engine, oil sludgecaused my car to stopped and now needs overhaul

Complain to Toyota, they are fixing some of these car for free. Here is the explanation and the list of problem vehicles.

Oil sludge or black sludge is a solid or gel in motor oil caused by the oil gelling or solidifying, usually at temperatures lower than 100 degrees Celsius. Sludge can be a major contributor to Internal combustion engine problems, and can require the engine to be replaced, if the damage is severe. Sludge is usually caused by the presence of water in the oil, and can accumulate with use. Ways to minimize sludge production and accumulation includes performing frequent oil changes, using synthetic oil, and following the manufacturer's engine maintenance routine.
The following engines were reported by the Center for Auto Safety and/or their manufacturers to have a problem with sludge accumulation:

  • 1996-2001 Toyota 3.0 L 1MZ V6
  • 1996-2001 Toyota 5SFE I4

    Maint. light reset

This is the reset proceedure for a 2008 Highlander with a key-type ignition:

Turn the key ON, do not start the engine.

Look at the odometer, and verify that it displays "TRIP A". If it is on "ODO" or "Trip B", press the black stick next to the odometer to read "TRIP A".

    Turn the key OFF.

Press in, and HOLD the black trip meter reset button, hold it IN.
    DO not release it.

Turn the key ON, do not start the engine

Observe the Odometer display. You will see 5 dashes, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 dash, and finally, 5 zeros. Then, whatever number that was displayed on "TRIP A" will be re-displayed..

Now release the black trip meter reset stick.

This completes the reset procedure, and it will be back on in 5,000 miles, to remind you of you next oil change.

    2006 toyota camry

It's basically a type of oil change life/ idiot lamp that will come on briefly after 4K just after startup and then stay on steady after 5K reached after reset procedure done after each oil change.
The explanation of it's purpose and the reset procedure should be covered in your owner's manual.
I remember resetting some Toyota maint req lamp by holding in the trip reset button ,turning on the ignition key ,the mileage indicator appears as a row of flashing segments that gradually disappear and your done.
If that doesn't work ,try releasing the trip switch momentarily, just after turning the key to run position and then redepress and hold the trip reset button in (before the cluster completes it's lamp prove out)
