2001 Pontiac Grand Am
Went for Inspection sticker in MA. Catalyst, O2 and one other not ready. Failed Inspection, Mechanic said battery must have been disconnected - it hasn't been. Suggested to drive vehicle from a cold start on the highway at 55-65 mph for a period of 20 minutes without hitting the brake and it should clear. Tested again on scanner and Catalyst still reading not ready. Drove again, still reading not ready any suggestions - almost out of time to get sticker
It usually takes more than one drive cycle to clear all monitors to "ready".The vehicle may take multiple "from cold" drive cycles and hundreds of miles to clear all.Drive normally with varied driving and include long coasting down stops.Buy a cheap scan tool ($35) and check monitors as you drive.
DO NOT CLEAR CODES or run the battery dead or you will have to start over!

Drive it some more. Has the battery been disconnected/replaced recently? The Inspection station should be able to print you out a drive cycle to get the monitors ready also.
SOURCE: what is the drive cycle for an 01 pontiac aztec?
if there is really no problem with all these things they should be able to clear out the lights when they go to do the inspection.
SOURCE: Can't pass emissions inspection
TRY DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLE SO THE PCM (COMPUTER) RESETS TO ORIGINAL DEFAULT VALUES. HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU. GOOD LUCK

the only light that matters on the dash for inspections is the check engine light for emissions purposeses, you can un hook the car battery for five minutes and let the codes reset in the computer, how ever i would wait till after u got the car inspected before you did this because it will reset the monitors as well, and that will fail you on the emissions test, if you havent completed the drive cycle yet. if it comes back on take it to an auto garage that has a snap-on modus scanner should be able to take car of it with that, and find out why it is coming on. let me know how it goes
