Obd not ready won't pass inspection

2001 Pontiac Grand Am
Went for Inspection sticker in MA. Catalyst, O2 and one other not ready. Failed Inspection, Mechanic said battery must have been disconnected - it hasn't been. Suggested to drive vehicle from a cold start on the highway at 55-65 mph for a period of 20 minutes without hitting the brake and it should clear. Tested again on scanner and Catalyst still reading not ready. Drove again, still reading not ready any suggestions - almost out of time to get sticker

It usually takes more than one drive cycle to clear all monitors to "ready".The vehicle may take multiple "from cold" drive cycles and hundreds of miles to clear all.Drive normally with varied driving and include long coasting down stops.Buy a cheap scan tool ($35) and check monitors as you drive.
DO NOT CLEAR CODES or run the battery dead or you will have to start over!

SOURCE: Monitors not ready: Catalyst,Evap System, Oxygen Sensor, Egr Syst

Drive it some more. Has the battery been disconnected/replaced recently? The Inspection station should be able to print you out a drive cycle to get the monitors ready also.

SOURCE: Service air bag light is on in 2005 tahoe

the only light that matters on the dash for inspections is the check engine light for emissions purposeses, you can un hook the car battery for five minutes and let the codes reset in the computer, how ever i would wait till after u got the car inspected before you did this because it will reset the monitors as well, and that will fail you on the emissions test, if you havent completed the drive cycle yet. if it comes back on take it to an auto garage that has a snap-on modus scanner should be able to take car of it with that, and find out why it is coming on. let me know how it goes

1999 Mazda B2500 won't pass inspection

Generally speaking, the not ready issue means the truck has not been driven enough since the battery was disconnected or the codes were cleared to have a new history. The cycle drive needs to include about 50-100 miles of both city and highway driving with the engine at normal operating temp. The distance does not have to be done in one trip.

I can't get an inspection sticker for my car because it keeps failing inspection because the computer will not reset. Every time it does the same thing. When they test the OBDII Readiness it says the...

Every time you reset the light or disconnect the battery it completely resets the system and it has to go through EVERY test again. The O2, EVAP, and Cat tests are generally the LAST THREE tests that are tested. You're not doing yourself any favors here.

Essentially what these readiness monitors are is the computer's notation that his has run the self diagnostics on each system and that the results feel into the expected results. If it is outside the expected results the computer will generally try to run the test multiple times before setting a DTC and turning on the Check Engine Light. It cannot set the status to "Ready" until it has a successful test within expected results; sometimes multiple successful tests. Sometimes, the tests need to run at different speeds - so the vehicle has to be driven not only at freeway speeds, but also city speeds for the tests to complete properly.

The O2 test MUST complete before the Catalyst test can run. The EVAP test generally requires that you have your fuel level at between 1/4 and 3/4 and that the vehicle sit undisturbed after being driven for a period of time for no less than 8 hours in order to run the EVAP test.

The same can be said for the O2 test sometimes because the computer needs to test the O2 sensors reaction to heating up and cooling down. Eventually they will all complete - unless there is an issue. I have seen where a component was in the process of going out and the computer was getting both GOOD and BAD results when running the tests. As a result it wouldn't set ready status because it wasn't getting the concurrent GOOD test results.

As a Texas Recognized Emissions Repair Facility - my shop sees this kind of stuff all the time.

Good Luck.

If the readings were close to passing, use 3oz of acetone per 10 gals of fuel and it should pass. Then you have a whole year to figure out what's wrong with it! Main cat is the large one. all others are pre-cats.
