2004 Jeep Wrangler - Clunking Noise when shifting out of Park

My 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport, 48,000 miles, automatic transmission, normally shifts smoothly through all gears. Sometimes I get a loud clunk when I shift from Park to either Reverse or Drive, especially if I'm parked at angle, either nose up or down. When I park at an angle, it doesn't shift smoothly into gear. Is this an indication of transmission problems or normal?

It could be lash in the differential which is normal, but it could also be a loose u-joint in the driveshaft. Check the rear driveshaft u-joints.

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy, I drive home last night park ,come back this morning shift lever will move freely but not out of park. Could this be a pin bushing?

It definitely sounds like you have a bad shifter cable. Not a very expensive part, but can be a pain to get changed.

When I shift to drive and give it some gas the rpm's just race like it's in neutral or park- I move it to N. let it return to idle rpm shift back to D. and it usually begins to operate correctly.

First check transmission oil level.
If the oil level is normal, it is possible either the transmission pump pressure is low, transmission solenoid may be bad, or clutches are worn. Have someone check to see if there are any diagnostic codes with an OBD code checker.

My jeep wrangler 2008 - I shifted to reverse then to parking, when i release the breaks it kept going in reverse. So i turn off the engine. now it wont start the engine, neither the shifter will move

The shifter cable has broken more than likely ,Find the shift shaft on the transmission,,block the wheels and remove the shift cable from the shift shaft, put the gear shift in park, then shift the shift shaft in park, then it will start,Then of course you will have to replace the shift cable.

2004 Pontiac sunfire shifter gets stuck in "park" when cold.

Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Description and Operation
The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of thew following components:
• The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid
• The body control module (BCM)
• The powertrain control module (PCM)
With the ignition in the ON position, battery positive voltage is supplied to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid receives a ground from the BCM. When the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is energized, the shift lever mechanically locked in the PARK position. When the driver presses the brake pedal the PCM sends a class 2 serial data message to the BCM. The BCM turns OFF the ground control circuit and this de-energizes the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. When the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is de-energized, the shift lever may be moved out of the PARK position. The BCM determines transaxle shift lever position through a class 2 serial data message from the PCM. The PCM receives inputs from the park/neutral position switch and determines shift lever position. When the BCM receives this information and determines that the shift lever is out of the PARK position, the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid ground is opened.

Do you know what a DTC is ? Diagnostic trouble code !

DTC B2708
The body control module (BCM) controls the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. Positive voltage is supplied via the ignition 1 voltage circuit to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The BCM controls the ground circuit of the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid . When the brake pedal is depressed, the BCM removes the ground allowing the solenoid to disengage. This action allows the vehicle to be shifted out of the PARK position.
Conditions for Running the DTC
DTC B2707

Your best bet mite be to have a qualified repair shop check it .

1997 dodage grand caravan sport, when shifting from park to drive it makes a ticking noise, do you know what this could be? the car shifts fine and runs fine 126,000 miles.

The electronic shift solenoids in those transmissions make a ticking noise when shifting, same as when you slow down and stop, you will hear it as well, if it's quiet and your window is down. My guess is what your hearing is normal but if worried, stop at any reputable mechanic shop, or dealer and they will confirm it, free of charge.

I have a 2004 jeep wrangler with a manual trans rattle in nutral

It's not normal, it sounds like the throwout bearing may be making the noise. It's hard to say how long it will hold up. I've seen them make noise for a while. I would check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder.

Cant get out of park

Your shift lock cable may be broken. Depending on the model, on TJs i have seen the shaft inside the shift knob crack and cause this problem (its made of plastic). Worst-case scenario, your transmission may have some serious problems...
