Hi
Wiih most radio units....If you have the proper code and have NOT tried more than 15 times to enter an incorrect code....you should be ok.
Turn OFF ignition switch and remove the key. Switch OFF interior lights. Switch ON Radio unit and SAFE will appear.
Leave everything alone for a period of ONE HOUR. During this time NO power (no matter how small) should be drawn from the battery. This is why the interior lights MUST NOT come ON when the door is opened. Trunk should also remain closed. In the event of any power been drawn from the battery in this time...You must start all over again.
Radio should after this time return to standard mode...Usually 4 flashing bars. Then enter your code. Dont forget to lock in the code and all should be fine

Can a bad o2 sensor (or fuel mixture) cause my passat to go into limp mode? P1196 (o2 sensor 1 bank 1) and P1813 solenoid 1 electrical transmission) are the codes I get. the car runs fine but the turbo...
check the spark plugs and wires. the turbo motors have an aluminum head that expands and contracts too quickly and cracks the ceramic insulator on the plugs causing the engine to run irratically when it starts making boost and drops into a safe mode. also throws the trans code.

How to exit the 1998 VW Passat radio out of SAFE mode:
IMPORTANT NOTE: You must have the security anti-theft code for your VW radio from the car manufacturer, or from a VW dealer!
The sequence of radio programming is:
1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
3. By the #1 key you will set up the first safe code digit.
4. By the #2 key you will set up the second safe code digit.
5. By the #3 key you will set up the third safe code digit.
6. By the #4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed. The radio is now ready for use!

If you don't have MODE and SCAN buttons ( I didn't ) you can try as above but with TP and TA - they worked for me.

I own 2008 passat, I want to know if there is a way to lock the doors so it can't be opened from the inside
as far as i no the only way is to activate the central locking via the remote,which puts the locks into safe mode and the doors cannot be opened from the inside or outside.the system was not designed to go into safe mode when manually locking with the locking button inside the vehicle,this is a safety measurein the event of an emergency incase you or your passengers need to exit the vehicle..i dont think it can be done..sorry.

Cd player es safe mode
Safe mode means, That to make the radio work need the Security code entered , Normally is in the Owner's manual or a separate ID card.
Supplied for the Dealer ship.
Maybe The BATTERY was Disconnected or the power to the radio was interupted.

Car radio in safe mode, don't have the code
No the vin number has nothing to do with the radio code the dealer has a automated phone number they call and tells them how to retrieve a code and the manufature gets the unlock code from this,try to google radio unlock procedure for the vw passat.

try disconnecting the battery cable or radio power input for a half hour or more make sure you have the key ready when you reconnect the battery cable as the factory alarm will sound.
