Hood will not lock on 2002 Volvo S40

I had to replace a headlight and when we closed the hood the latch would not lock the hood down. This has happened several time recently when we changed the oil and changed a fuse. We just kept playing with it each time until it would lock but the latch was very rusted and worn so I purchased a replacement latch and the same thing happened as soon as we installed it! This one seemed to work just fine after installing it until I released it using the hood release-then it would not lock the hood down the next time we closed it. It can't be that it's broken as well, can it? What else could be causing this?

Check if the left and right hight adjustable stops are to high. If you put pressure above the latch and it works. This will most probably be the issue.

SOURCE: hood latch won't release hood. 91 volvo 240.

probably a overstretched cable pull, or defective latch, i had the same problem with my truck. pull hood relese a couple times, and go to hood, give it a love tap with your fist abouve the latch ontop of the hood, if that dont work, you will have to go underneath your volvo and release it by hand with a screwdriver, try and lift the latch over the catch

SOURCE: Pulling the hood latch handle does not release the

Outer sheath of release cable has perished. You need to disconnect the cable from the inside , hold the end of cable with pliers and push forward the outer sheath with v shaped tool eg clawhammer and there will be movement of the cable on the latch side releasing it. Hope this helps

2006 volvo s40 2.4I. Where is the ECT(engine

Instructions
    • 1 Open the engine hood by pulling the hood release latch located on the lower kick panel on the driver's side of the Volvo S40. Lift the hood up and prop it on the hood prop.
    • 2 Locate the steering shaft that extends from the firewall to lower suspension located inside the engine compartment, by the front right wheel. Halfway down the shaft, you will locate the power steering pump. The pump is a black container that bolts to the driver's side of the engine block. On the top, you will find a cap that says "Power Steering Fluid."
    • 3 Look to the left of the cap. Bolted to the power steering pump is the thermostat temperature sensor. The sensor has a black round cap and a black wire extending out of the top.

The hood on my 2002 Chrysler Sebring closes but doesn't lock up. It stays but doesn't go down all the way like it is supposed to.

There is a black rubber stopper corkscrew on each side of the radiator support directly above the headlights, make sure they are not spun up too high. Try spinning them down a turn or two and make sure you use enough force to actually latch the hood. Drop it from about 2 feet up if necessary. It is safer to drop the hood than to gently close it and press down. Pressing down can cause dents.

My honda odyssey 2002 hood latch stuck it opened the hood and now not closing even droping the hood from difference hight and even pressing it ???

SOUND LIKE YOUR HOOD LATCH IS STUCK IN THE RELEASE POSITION. YOU CAN DO TWO THINGS. REPLACE YOUR HOOD LATCH OR PUSH THE LATCH BACK INTO POSITION MANUALLY EVERYTIME YOU OPEN YOUR HOOD. IT'S EASY. FIRST CHECK YOUR HOOD RELEASE LEVER (DRIVER SIDE KICK PANEL)AND MAKE SURE IT'S MOVING FREELY. IF LEVER IS OK,GO TO YOUR HOOD LATCH. LOOK TO THE RIGHT OF THE LATCH (LOOK DOWN FROM THE TOP VIEW)AND YOU'LL SEE A SMALL METAL BAR WITH A SPRING PULLING DOWN ON IT(MIGHT NEED FLASH LIGHT TO SEE BAR AND SPRING). TAKE A FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER AND PUSH DOWN ON THE METAL BAR WHERE SPRING CONNECT. THE BAR SURE MOVE ABOUT 1/4 INCH DOWN. CLOSE YOU HOOD AND YOU'RE DONE. YOU JUST HAVE TO PUSH THE BAR DOWN EVERYTIME YOU OPEN IT.

I replaced the battery in my 2007 volvo s40 2.4i, and the alarm light blinks, but nothing else works. The key isn't working to open the doors and turn off the alarm?

Hello! Tell me Is the hood open or closed? Do you have a spare door key?
If the doors are locked, the hood is closed, your key will not unlock the doors, and neither will your spare...Your going to need a locksmith...
