Don't know anything about your vehicle but from watching the videos below you may have to check the neutral safety sensor as well !

SOURCE: oil change
It's a regular 12mm bolt (it doesn't look like a "plug") protruding horizontally from the back corner of the oil pan (aluminum pan with a waffle pattern, pretty much centered just in front of the front axle).
SOURCE: how do I replace alternator in mazda mpv 2000?
Typically an alternator is an easy fix. It requires removal of the belt from the engine running it, and a few bolts that attach it to the engine.
Because of the engineering with the 2000 mpv, it is a very difficult fix, and one that requires removal of the transaxle and exhaust manifold, as well as removal of the lower engine mounts. It will take a qualified Mazda mechanic 3.5 hours to do the fix - you can (at least) triple that amount of time as a DIY project (assuming you have the right tools).

I was browsing unsolved problems. If you still have the problem, I'll try to help you. But it's going to be awhile trying to communicate back and forth. First...Check the engine for spark. Take off a plug wire and stick a screw driver in the wire end and place the metal part of the screw driver next to something on the van that's metal. Have someone crank it over for just a second or two and see if a small spark jumps from the screw driver to the metal part. I'll check back for your answer.

On my 2000 Mazda B3000 it's up underneath the dash right by the steering column, like they said, blue plastic square relay
