I have a 1999 ford contour svt and I was just starting out I 1st gear. I got on it a bit. I got abought 1,000 yeard's when the oil light came on. I parked the car right away and when I looked under the hood I noticed that oil was porring out of the oil filter. I look a littel closer and it look's like the filter mushroomed out and is sitting side way's. What do you think would have caused this and is it a sereous problem??
If it does it again after you change the oil and filter, I would have the pressure relief valve checked in the oil pump.
Replace the oil filter, fill crankcase with proper amount of oil, drive car away and pray to God it was just a defective oil filter.
How "old" was this oil filter and how long ago was it supposedly replaced? Does the SVT have an oil pressure gauge (I know my non-SVT contour does not) and did you notice anything on the gauge (super-high pressure) before the filter burst?
Unfortunately, the idiot light tells you there is "NO" oil pressure, which is the condition you encountered after the filter went south.
