I have an 04 Malibu and my front brake on the left side locks up on the wheel when I drive. Sometimes its really bad and if I continue to accelerate, the car limps and shakes so I most of the time have to pull over and let it cool off for a little while. What is causing this? Is it the emergency brake?

SOURCE: is it safe to drive car if brakes caught fire - still has lining!

I would suggest that you adjust your rear brakes. Most likely you have drum brakes in the rear. When the rear brakes are out of adjustment (caused by not using "e-brake" when you park the car. The "e-brake" when applied keeps the rear brakes adjusted with a self adjusting mechanism.) the front brakes have to do ALL of the work to stop the car. In this case going down a steep grade for a long time simply overheated the front brakes. When the front brake pads overheat they get "glazed" and don't want to work anymore. Most likely reason for brake pedal going to the floor is the brake fluid was boiling. Hope this helps. Good luck.

SOURCE: a friend has a 2000 chevy malibu. when driving at

Well, that depends, do you have front-wheel drive or rear wheel drive? With front wheel drive, you most likely have a CV joint problem on the drive axle. The best way to find out how to do ANY repair to any make or model car is to buy (or borrow) a chilton or hanes manual from an auto parts store (or library). They are not very expensive and save you tons of money, by helping you fix the most common, and many uncommon problems, step-by-step.

SOURCE: will clunk hard when accelerating slowly, and then

Is the clunk noticed as soon as the brake pedal is released? Your brake shoes engage in the rear drum when the brake pedal is pressed and then release as the brake pedal is released. Your shoes may be worn and might be "hanging up" for a brief period, that would make a clunk sound your describing

04 mountaineer brake light on, grinding and clicking noise front driver wheel

if the clicking noise happens when turning the wheels while driving, the most likely problem is the output axle shaft ( drive axle ) when the boots rips you loose grease and they start to grind and clicking and brake away. ( recommended to bring to an auto repair shop ) roughly price on drive axles are $125 for the part and 1.5 hours labor.

Now, if those noises could be duplicated without driving ( just moving the steering wheel side to side ) it could be a bad ball joint or pitman arm.

I really don't think that the brake light is related. I would go straight to your mechanic and avoid all pot holes and drive slowly.
Good luck.

04 trailblazer front wheels grind after using 4wd?

You probably have a front drive splined disconnect assembly that has gone bad. This assembly engages the front differential when 4WD is selected. Below is a figure of the item, it is on the passenger side of the differential area.

if both front wheels are dragging it is probably the master cylinder, if only one wheel is dragging it could be the caliper or the brake hose, jack the car up and have some one apply the brakes and try to turn the wheel the instant the brake peddle is released both wheels should start turning the instant the peddle is released....hope this helps

My 2008 Malibu is driving and sounding "rough". I can feel it in the steering wheel.

does it make any difference turning left or right? like if you are on the highway and changing lanes? does it change pitch? any difference braking or not?? the fr brakes and the wheel bearings need to be checked but you really need to be more specific to narrow the problem down.

Jeep front end shakes and locks up

Obviously you have some dangerous brake problems and shouldn't be driving it. With that said, besides putting everyone else in danger, as well as yourself, your heating up parts that become brittle when heated, and could snap off, like a wheel. You more than likely have warped rotors, seized calipers, defective flex hoses, just for starters. Park it until you can get it checked, please!

Anti lock brakes

you need to have your brakes checked on the front and also have them check wheel bearing on that side. when a car sits overnight in humid conditions the brake rotors will rust over lightly, that normally is removed off of rotor after first brake application. it shouldnt do it after you keep driving. abs does make noises though when it is working, sliding, so I would pop my hood and check for abs computer. It has brake lines and electrical connection going to it. Im not saying its bad but just look at its location and see if the sound of it functioning/location seems to make it sound like it is left wheel
