I have a 2002 Freelander, July of last year I was driving back from Springfield, MO to Tulsa, OK and about half way the car started loosing power and quit running. After about 15 minutes it started up and would travel for about 20 miles and then again had to wait 15 minutes and the vehicle would start up. I took it to my mechanic and he said the intake manifold needed to be replaced so it was replaced. The vehicle ran fine, but I took no long trips out of town. Now the problem is coming again and it seems to happen when the weather is warm and humid. I took it back to my mechanic and he could not find anythng wrong. Last night I drove for 18 miles and it lost power and quit running, I waited for 5 minutes and it started. The car sat for 1 hour then on my way home I drove the vehicle 15 miles and it died, drove it 5 miles it died, drove it 2 miles and it died and then fortuately I drove it home. Today I drove 20 miles to work without incident. Please Please Please Help me. Thank You, Sherry
Try cleaning the fuel pump filter. Under the seat behind the driver lift the carpet and you will find a round cover with six screws remove the cover. The fuel pump is directly below unscrew the retaining round plate and remove the pump. At the base of the pump is a small filter if it is covered in black muck that's your problem. clean and replace. job takes about 10 mins good luck. please let me know how you got on!

Usually answered in minutes!
Coming back home from Sydney, Aus......ran fine abt 300 kms.......then on an uphill stretch of the highway, the power just reduced and the engine quit. Started on the first crank went a few kms and the same thing happened twice.........so called Roadside Assist who said he will follow me to the nearest town (20 kms )and also check for if it happens again. I had waited for him for abt 20 mins. But this time it ran as if nothing was wrong. We stayed the night over in the town and started early morning to find that nothing was wrong again...........so i wonder what could have happend. Yes, it was a warm and very windy (with lotsa gusts) day.
But now after abt 15 days of that incident I am getting strong vibrations which seem to be related to the rear of the propshaft.......though this does not seem connected to the prob I had earlier. Anyway the whole thing sounded very similar so I thought I should write.
-Cheers,
Chai.
Sorry, In my earlier post, i forgot to mention that its a 2002 Freelander 2.5 V6 petrol 4door plus hatch.
I stop at the stop light wait for the light and the engine just stop , car won't started after 10 minutes it started , when I make left turn or right turn signal the lights get diem but the signal doesn't work just made a noise and now the car just sit in my driveway because i couldn't get it to started
i had same problem on a ford cougar and it was an oxygen sensor
i had a ford cougar that did the same problem and it was an oxygen sensor also a bad fuel filter and fuel pump will cause the same thing. use a code tester and if is a electrical problem it will tell you if not sometimes fuel codes don't come up
