Ford Windstar SE, 3.8L V6, 1999, front seat heat/defrost is cold

Ford Windstar SE, 3.8L V6, 1999, front seat heat/defrost is alway cold with engine warm and heater turned on.

1) When (engine is warm and) front seat heat temp slider is moved from full cold to anything with hot air mix to full hot, you can hear a door flapping back and forth under the dash and air delivered remains full cold.

2) Door flapping problem is with any heater fan speed and/or defrost/heat/dash air setting when any hot air mixed via temp selector (does not happen with full cold setting in any node).

3) Rear seat heat works fine, although front seat heat must be engaged (defrost/heat/dash air on) for rear heat to operate (this is by design presumably), so engine hot water is getting to heat exchanger under dash.

SOURCE: Problem:

Problem is most likely in the electronic blend door motor or the door itself has broken.
To access the electronic temperature blend door actuator remove cassette storage box or center shelf unit, if equipped.
Remove instrument panel ash receptacle by depressing service lever. Disconnect electrical harness connector from A/C electronic door actuator motor.
Remove three retaining screws.
Carefully pull A/C electronic door actuator motor outward and off A/C evaporator housing assembly.Make sure the door it self is not cracked where the actuator hooks to it and that it will move.

No defrost and no heat ford winstar 2003 a/c blows in front not real cold in rear blows very cold

Most likely the blend door actuator. Do you hear clicking behind the dash? If so that's the problem. Excellent video on youtube goes throught the whole process, about 30- 40 mins to fix.

2001 Windstar- I have no heat or defrost. I do

I had this problem and noticed a faint clunking sound behind the radio. It was the blend door motor that needed to be replaced. The motor has small fine tooth plastic gears that wear out and won't open to allow heat.

1995 Ford Windstar transmission is slipping and shifting hard

bad news, 1995 ford windstar transmissions fail extremely frequently at about 60000 miles, I would not waste money in a transmission flush as it will most likely not correct the problem. It is a dsign flaw, the transmission cannot handle the torque of the 3,8L engine and the 700Lbs of added weight of the windstar body.
I'd just use it untill it fails...

I would think the door you hear flapping is the door that controls the airflow across the heater coil - and the fan keeps blowing the door closed, preventing the airflow from going across the heating coil. I don't know whether this vehicle is vacum controlled or cable controlled - so either it's a disconnected cable, or a leaking vacum line.

Vent controls wont switch from defrost to any other selection replaced switch already I have a 2003 ford windstar, heat and cold air will only blow from the window defrost vents, any other selections...

You have a vacuum leak.Defrost is the default postion(no vacuum).
See if you can locate the small black vacuum line that goes inside the vehicle on the passenger side near the heater core. The trace it back, should see it going to a canister then to the intake manifold.Make sure it is not disconnected or broken somewhere.

No heat - ac stays on blowing through defrost vents

If you have the heater directed to the windshield, the AC will turn on. Move the control away from defrost.
