Have changed all sensors on the transmission and it still wont shift outof first gear. the transmission was fine and my sister stopped for tenminutes to see my nephew and when she left out it wouldn't shift out offirst gear all that she has for gears is first and reverse. do youhave a clue as to what it might be
Do you know if you have a 3 speed trans or a 4 speed trans? If it is a 4 speed , the (D) on the shift indicator will have a box around it. I need to know which transmission you have, then I can help.
If it did it all of a sudden and never had a problem with 2nd I would say you likely have a bad governor valve. Have you checked the downshift cable to make sure it is stuck in the pulled position. The only other I can think of to try is adjusting the intermediate band. If neither of these work then you will have to pull the pan and valve body to check the governor and to see if the intermediate band is broken. I can't remember if the intermediate band adjustment is on the outside or the inside but I will look it up and repost.

My plymouth voyager has the same problem as this the trans stys in first gear and wont shift, I'd like to fix the trans that is in the van, could you describe how to diagnos the issue. I have some resources. but never worked on a mini van trans.
yep it is a three speed trans. the funny thing is, when the car has not been run for a day and then you drive it, it works ok for about 5 blocks and then what happens is that you have to then get going real fast and it will finally shift into a higher gfear, but the not final overdrive. Any ideas?
