Chugging in a 1992 Toyota Pickup 22re 4x4

My truck will crank right up, when its cold..it runs perfect, but when its hot or hot outside, it will start chugging. It got so bad that I couldn't go past 10 mph. I put it in 1st gear and didn't hit the gas and it was chugging. 2nd gear, did the same thing, 3rd and 4th gear did it too. A guy told me that it was the mass air flow sensor, bought that..and did it worse. I dropped the fuel tank, cleaned it out and bought a new fuel pump, still did it. I bought a fuel filter, knock sensor, TPS sensor, injectors, distrubotor, cap, rotor button, wires plugs, and new coil. I bought this truck from a man who had it sitting outside for 2 years with no motor or anything in it. I got the motor rebuilt. I've went to 3 different people about the chugging and no one can figure it out. HELP!

SOURCE: 1985 toyota 4x4 22re missing and rough idle

Have you pulled out the spark plugs to see if there are any tell tale signs on them. They are a good indicator of many problems that occur and can save a lot of time isolating the problem. They should all be the same colour. Is the air box and lid properly secured with no leaks or splits in the intake tube.Have you put injector cleaner in the fuel tank to clear up any possible dirty injectors.Therse a few things your problem could be including engine vacuum leak which you can find by lightly spraying carburettor cleaner around suspect places such as inlet manifold and around injector seals.

Try cleaning the throttle body.Check the air-gap for the pick-up coil inside the distributor assembly(use a brass feeler gauge)
Check valve clearances if needed(possible tight intake valve adj.)
Check base timing(follow instr. via under hood label)
Hope this helps.

Have 22re engine - truck runs great cold when warms up starts cuttin out?

i would look at the temp sensor. i believe when they fail, they peg out all the way cold or all the way hot. so your truck thinks it is still cold when you have reached operating temps, causeing your misfire.

1992 toyota 22re fluids out and puts out a lot of fume out the exhast

Floods out.Multiple causes. How does it run when warmed up?Still stink?
Check injectors: Run the engine up to 3,000 RPM and turn off the key, while flooring the gas pedal. If engine still runs, the injector(s) are stuck open.
Also check for a vacuum leak-that will cause the engine to run very rich.
Also may be an open circuit in the temp sensor(computer side). The engine may think it's very cold and richen up the mixture.

What tempature should my 1988 22re run

operating temp should be from 195 to 215 degrees.
colder than 195 and the fuel eccon will be low.
above 220 either there is low water flow ( plugged Radiator) or poor air flow accross radiator.
At 260 you are too hot.
a stuck closed thermostst will run hot
a stuck open thermostat will run cold at high speed (50 mph)

I HAVE 91 22RE PICKUP,STARTS GOOD COLD,HAVE TO HOLD THROTTLE OPEN TO START WHEN HOT,CANUNPLUG COLD START INJECTOR&IT STARTS FINE HOT

This sounds like you may have conflicting information being sent to the computer. Change your coolant temp sensor. If this is reading improperly, the vehicle will contniue to trigger the cold start circuit and cause the truck to run rich while hot, resulting in poor economy. Any of this sound familiar? Let me know if you need anything further. Glad to help!

When its cold outside, has a hard time starting....92 toyota 4x4

you need to have the Engine Coolant Temperature switch checked, since the computer relies solely on sensors, the ect tells the computer how cold or hot it is so the computer will make it a rich or lean mixture to start the engine,if it tells the computer that it is 75 degrees the computer will lean the mixture like starting a car in the winter without a choke.

1988 toyota 22re truck will crank and run perfect until you turn the engine off then it takes about a hour before it starts again engine just turns over.

First step, see what is missing when it wont start, fuel, or spark. Is it carburated? or fuel injected. (22re should be injected.)
