I have a 88 Dodge caravan, I need to know what the code means when you turn the key on and off three times.1-2,2-55,55-55.I useto have a manual.

Typically, when the computer code scan is complete it will display the word 'done'. Generally it would be proceeded by any "P" error codes if they exist..should not have cycled key three times. seach internet on how to clear this

Meaning when you try to start the engine doesn't crank over? If this is happening, then it is the ignition switch that is bad. But if it cranks over and doesn't start. When you cycle the key, you turn the fuel pump on every time and it pressures up the system. The check ball in the fuel sending unit or fuel pump is stuck open, letting the fuel drain back to the tank. I would live with it until the pump fails. Because to fix it you have to replace the sending unit and pump. Shop cost is around $600.

If the engine light is on that means there is something wrong. Turn the key foward and back 3 times fast without starting the engine, after the 3rd time look at the odometer it will go blank and then it will give you some codes that start with "P" example:"P320" once you get those codes come back or google them and you'll find out what's going on. The 95 Caravan is great for giving you trouble codes. However they are two digit codes. There should be a blink sequence followed by a short pause then another blink sequence (example 2 blinks, short pause, 3 blinks... Then 5 blinks, pause, 5 blinks which means no more codes. Turn key from off to run three times and leave in run and watch check engine light to count blinks. Disconnecting negative terminal on battery for 30 seconds clears codes.

Need to fine a repair shop that has a snap-on scaner, with that the light can be reset.

look in your drivers manual. for my truck i have to pump the gas pedal three times when i turn the ign key on.

With the battery connected?
With a Digital Odometer: Turn the Key from Off to On (not start) three (3) times, On the third (3rd) time leave it in the On (not start) position. The Codes will appear in the Digital Odometer Screen. When it is finished it will show "PdonE".

Turn Key the same way and leave the same way.
Watch the Engine Light (yellow) and count and record the blinks. Do it a few times to get the count correct.
These are 2-digit numbers. The last set is 5-blinks and 5-blinks indicating that it is complete.

your van has an obd1 setup with dodge all you should have to do is turn key to ign to off 5 times without starting vehicle and the check engine light will flash the code for example it will start off with a code 12 i believe saying the computer is functioning the check engine will flash 1 pause flash 2 pause and will repeat a total of three times just write down all the codes when it gets to code 55 it is done hope this is helpful

Engine? Those flashes should be 2 digit numbers . Cycle key, on, off, on, off, on & leave on & recount those flashes. Example: 3 flashes, pause, then 3 more is code 33. Or 2 flashes, pause, 4 flashes, is code 24. 5 flashes, pause 5 more, is code 55 which means end of message. Then get back.

To find the code, get a pencil and paper, sit in the drivers seat and gaze at the instrument panel. insert your key in the ignition. (do not turn) Look at the dask and watch the area where the "check Engine" light comes on.. turn the key on-off-on-off-on (semi quickly) do not start the engine.
leave on . the engine light will start flashing. it's like morse code. it will flash a set of numbers then another, then pause, then next number and next, pause (for instance if it is a code twelve, it would flash as follows.. * (short pause) ** (longer pause) if there are other codes, it wil flash them too. so if there were say two codes, say 34 and 35 , it would flash as follows, *** (short pause) ****, (longer pause) ***(short pause)***** ( longer pause) it takes a little to watch the codes and write at the same time. sometimes helps if you have one person watch the light and one write the codes. If you miss one, don't worry it usually repeatseach code three times. if you can't get it quick enough, turn the key off, then wait two - three seconds and try again. let me know wha the codes are and I'll try and help you. good luck.
