Behind the hub on the backside is a slot on the bottom putting a screw driver in and working in and up and down motion will turn the little wheel that adjust the breaks. turning the wheel down will loosen the breaks so that they will not grab the hub hope this helps and thanks for using fixya!!!

Look at drum after taking wheel off, you will see 2 bolt holes across from oneanother by the studs for the wheel ,you need the correct metric thread on a short bolt, thread bolt into hole and notice drum being pulled off be sure you have correct thread and it should thread easily by hand, then turn with wrench alternating from the first hole to the other being careful to make sure the drum comes off evenly, mine came off very easily with minimal pressure

Hi. how would i repair a rear axle for a 2006 toyota corolla? i dont have a lift so will i need to take it to an autobody shop? if so how much do these repairs cost usually?

What are going to do to repair the axle? There really is no axle on front drive cars, the wheel assembly is connected to a hub that is mounted to the frame through swing arms. And, you would not take your car to a autobody shop for mechanical work. The cost of repairs depends on what is being done.

Location of the emergency rear brake switch n a

Hello. I assume that you want to know the location of the switch that activates the brake light on the dash when the park brake lever is pulled. It is under the rear of the park brake handle; you need to remove the console to see it.

However...if your brake light in your dash is staying ON, I would first suggest that you look at the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. If it is low, the light will come on, also. The fluid level in the master cylinder drops proportionally as the brake wear. I would bet that your fluid is low; about an ounce of fluid decrease will light up the brake light.

Is there a trick to removing rear brake drums on a 2004 corolla besides releasing the parking brake and loosening the adjuster star wheel?

The only trick is banging it off. Drums are known to be "frozen" on or stuck. Honestly, the only way to get them off when they are stuck is to carefully hammer it off. Below is what is required to remove and replace the drum....and a picture of your system:

Removal & Installation
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove the wheels.
  3. Remove the brake drum from the axle hub.
To install:
  1. Install the brake drum.
  2. Install the rear wheels, tighten the wheel lug nuts.

I need to fix the rear passenger side wheel bearing on my 2002 corolla but i would like to take it apart so i dont have to buy the entire assembly.

The rear wheel bearings is a bolt in hub unit and is not separately serviceable on this car.

Any attempt to replace just the bearing will have to involve pressing the bearings out then taking them to local bearing suppliers and having replacement units sourced or made based on the dimensions, as their are no correct listings available for this application.
The cost would far exceed the $300 for the hub, and quickly.

The rear wheel bearing on a toyota camry is replaced by replacing the wheel bearing and hub as a unit. this is a design change as compare to older models with two piece wheel bearings. Scotch drive wheels. Remove rear wheel. Remove rear brake drum. (note: if emergency brakes are applied you will not be able to remove brake drum) Remove dust cap and hub retaining nut. Hub should slide off as unit. Replace hub with new unit. Installation is reverse of removal.
