Could be a bad connection on one of the battery cables, or you may have cooked a fuseable link.
There are 3 or 4 fuseable link wires coming off the large terminal on the starter that powers the key switch and fuse box.
I would check the starter to see if it has voltage first.

SOURCE: alternator, battery good for some reason my battery

Most likely you have a parasitic draw. Unhook one of the battery terminals and put a test light between the cable and the terminal. If it lights, pull fuses until it goes out. the fuse that turns it out is the circuit that has the draw. Find what is staying on and repair it.

SOURCE: 80 El Camino Interior Lights do not go off

The door jab switch in the doors are the more likely problem, there are two,but the driver side is most likely the problem.

SOURCE: I have a 1986 Chevrolet El Camino V6. Brand new

IF THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED, 12.60 VOLTS & THE CABLES ARE CLEAN & TIGHT, THERE ARE FUSIBLE LINKS AT THE STARTER THAT SUPPLY POWER TO EVERYTHING IN THE VEHICLE. THEY ARE FASTENED ON THE SAME LARGE TERMINAL AS THE MAIN BATTERY CABLE ON THE STARTER. THE FUSIBLE LINKS ARE SPECIAL WIRES DESIGNED TO BURN INTO IF A SHORT CIRCUIT HAPPENS. THE BIG BLACK THING THERE IS NOT A FUSE, IT IS JUST A CONNECTOR. TO FASTEN THE MAIN WIRE TO THE FUSIBLE LINK WIRE. IF YOU PULL ON THE FUSIBLE LINK IT WILL STRETCH LIKE STIFF RUBBER. IF IT STRETCHES IT WILL NEED TO BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED. IF IT DOESN'T STRETCH IT IS PROBABLY OK & IT MAY BE A BAD CABLE.

Runs rough at idle when i drive it runs fine until i come to red light then it wants to stall. if it is idling it will stall to just bought it havent did any maintenance yet

Those El Caminos are nice. If you haven't done any maintenance, I would make sure that the oil is full, check and replace any bad carb. vacuum lines, check for any fuel, intake, vacuum, etc. leaks. Maybe check and replace spark plugs, wires, dist. cap + rotor, also check timing, etc. Good luck.

What should i do because my el camino has been sitting for 15+ years

Charge the battery, change the oil, transmission, gearbox and brake fluid, tank it and crank it up. Or, if you are in hurry, just charge the battery and start it. Check the brakes, though.

1980 el camino---brake problems

Fuse should be under dash on left side. Providing that there is power there and power at the signal switch (and bulbs are good) likely there is a problem in the signal switch.
