2002 Avalanche gas gauge problems

2002 avalanche gas gauge shows low fuel even when the tank is full

GM sent out a "Service Advisory" on this a while back but stopped short of a "Recall". The advisory stated that you could take your truck into a dealer and if it was found to have the defecive instrument cluster, it would be replaced free of charge if your vehicle was within 75,000 miles, otherwise if the problem was not found, you would have to pay for the diagnostics or you would have to pay for the repair if you were over on the miles.

Gm has a real problem with fuel tank sending units. That is what is wrong. You need a fuel tank sending unit. You can only get them aftermarket with the whole fuel pump module, but you can buy them seperate if you buy it from the dealer.

How do I syphon the gas out of my 2002 1500 Chevrolet Avalanche.

Siphoning gas out of a vehicle can be a hazardous and potentially dangerous task. Additionally, it may be ******* in some jurisdictions. If you need to remove gas from your 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, it is recommended that you consult a professional mechanic or automotive technician for assistance.
If you still choose to proceed with siphoning the gas yourself, here are some general steps to follow:
  1. Park the vehicle on level ground and turn off the engine. Be sure to engage the parking brake.
  2. Locate the fuel tank. In the case of your 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, the fuel tank is located underneath the truck bed.
  3. Locate the fuel line. This is the hose that connects the fuel tank to the engine.
  4. Insert a siphoning hose into the fuel tank through the fuel filler neck. Make sure the hose goes all the way to the bottom of the tank.
  5. Use a manual pump or a vacuum pump to start the siphoning process. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the pump you are using.
  6. Once the fuel starts flowing, make sure to keep the siphoning hose lower than the fuel tank to maintain the flow of gas.
  7. Continue siphoning until you have removed the desired amount of gas from the tank.
  8. Once you are finished, remove the siphoning hose and dispose of the gas in accordance with local regulations.
Again, please exercise caution when attempting to siphon gas from your vehicle, and consider seeking professional assistance to avoid any accidents or legal issues.

Ran out of gas, car wouldn't crank replaced fuel pump, fuel relay, and in line fuel filter and still won't crank on 2002 chevy avalanche

still won't crank ? how's your battery ? starter ? starter solonoid ? if your engine does'nt crank , its dead ! would'nt you check the battery first ? then move on with checking the starter circuit ? seems like your putting the cart before the horse ! first of all, when you run out of gas, you need to replace the FUEL FILTER, your engine just sucked the dirt, garbage, etc., out of the tank. there's plenty of sediment in the tank, don't know how it gets there, but, you'd be surprized ! talking threw experience !!! I operate heavy equipment, its a cardinal sin to run out of fuel !!! you say you replaced the inline filter, which one, up by the engine or the main filter, under vehicle along frame ? are we talking about the same animal, PLEASE CLARIFY !

Easiest way to replace a fuel pump on a 2002 chevy avalanche?

i replaced the fuel pump on my chevy avalanche last year there is really only one way to replace it ,you have to take the braces down that holds the fuel tank up, unhook fuel lines, and rubber filler hoses, drop the gas tank to be able to get to the fuel pump. i bought a book at auto parts store that takes you step by step on how to do it.

I have the same problem with the gas guage reading empty when its full. But now every once in awhile when i put it in reverse it'll die.

it sounds like the fuel pump or "sending unit" is causing the faulty gas gauge and stalling. if your vehicle is the avalanche shown, the sending unit is located inside the fuel tank and i believe it needs to be dropped in order to be replaced
