2003 Galant Clicking noise when trying to start.

I tried to start up my 2003 galant (31,000 miles) only to hear a loud clicking noise coming from the engine. The batttery was not dead, and i didn't leave the lights on. When I put the keys in the ignition all the lights show up on the dash like usual, but the car just wont get past the clicking noise to turn over. What could this be? I tried jump starting the car, but the car i didnt start.

It is your battery it may not be completly dead but it is too dead to run the starter. It take 300 -600 amp to run a starter and 20 amp to run a stereo

I have a 2003 mitsubishi galant with 2.4 ltr engine. it had a loud popping noise coming from timing cover. started it back up a few diff. times trying 2 pinpoint problem. last time i started it, it started...

Uh oh Clunks are a real bad sound. Valves hitting pistons etc Check crankshaft turns by handand check valve gear rockers etc. To push in tensioner put it in a vise and SLOWLY wind in There is a small hole near piston end of tensioner that you have to line up with piston and put a small allen key or nail through to retain piston untill you refit it With belt in place only then remove pin

My 2002 Mitsubishi galant makes clicking noises and won't start, but it's not the battery

I would guess your starter is shot. That may be the clicking that you are hearing.

When my AC is on the coldest setting I start to hear a clicking noise. Why is that?

If the clicking noise is from the dash its the heater control valve and see below

I had the exact same problem, yes it was the heater control valve, the repair was 285.00. The tech that replaced it told me it is a common problem for the Galant. He said that if you keep your temp selector on either all hot or all cold that it keeps constant pressure on the plastic gear teeth in the valve. As they break off one by one you begin to hear that clicking noise as the dont catch. When you finally break off the last one it stops working.

According to him if you always leave the dial at least one notch from fully hot or fully cold you will not experience a failure of the switch

Lights come on radio works, car will not start. When I turn the ignition on it clicks

Check and clean the battery terminals, just went through this exact same problem myself this week! Google "clean battery terminals" if you have never done this before, pretty easy.
