I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I LOOKED IT UP IN THE HAYNES MANUAL IT SAID YOU HAVE TO JACK THE CAR UP LEVEL, AND THERE IS A PLUG ON THE SIDE OF THE TRANSMITION, YOU TAKE IT OUT IF FLUID COMES OUT THEN YOU ARE GOOD.

SOURCE: How many quarts of transmission fluid is in a 1999 Chevy Malibu?

Before you drain the fluid, make sure you have a suitable funnel(one of those long flexible tube types worked great for me) to get in past what is in the way. Be careful with the fill plug because you need to have your car level, jacking up the front end won't do it because then you have tilted the transmission and the fluid level is off. I used a lift to check after filling it and it took about another 1/8 quart, so if you fill 7 1/4 quarts you would have a healthy slight overfill and I wouldn't worry about checking it if you don't have a lift. The 13 quarts total is talking about the torque convertor being dry which as long as you don't start the car with no fluid in the there won't be a problem and 7 1/4 quarts would do it.

SOURCE: 1997 Chevy 1500 P/U 4x4 small V8. Transmission shifting issue.

you may be confusing the torque converter clutch engagement with o.d. this trans has a problem with the T.C.C. regulator valve wearing out the valve body bore. this will cause the converter clutch to engage only sometimes or not at all. this will set a P1870 code in the control module. when this code is stored in the controller, ( check engine light may or may not be on), it increases the pressure in the transmission causing the 1-2 shift to be harsh. ask a local tranny shop to scan the vehicle ( most will do this for free) if this is the problem they can either fix your valve body (sonnax parts) or replace it with an upgraded valve body. hope this helps

How much transmission fluid does it take when changing the transmisssion screen and filter?

When the pan is dropped and fluid is drained, to refill, it usually needs 5 - 6 quarts. When refilling, check the transmission fluid dipstick as you are adding the last two quarts. And also run the transmission thru the gears.

Want to change transmission fluid and filter

I took mine to a shop for a flush and filter change. Costed me about $240 all said and done give or take. the '03 (and other) denali's have a big transmission reserve and i believe they take approximately 16 quarts of fluid in the system. the trans fluid is around 7 a quart i believe, and I recommend a flush to replace all the fluid with new fluid before changing the filter so that when you change the filter out, you are running new fluid through it. I don't know how to flush the system without their special tool that straight swaps the fluid as the ****** is running, so that will have to be done by a shop anyways. As for the filter swap, I believe the filter is about $29 and you'll need approx 7-8 quarts of fluid to replace when you drop the transmission pan.

All in all, in fluid alone you will be spending approximately $175. $29 for a filter. let the shop make a few bucks and have it done by pros. I know they get discount on the fluids, but I figure I still spent $35 more than doing it myself for an hour or two of work. Not a horrific deal to be honest.

How much transmission fluid should be put in a 1995 cutlass ciera?

If you are just draining the pan and replacing the filter it will hold around 6 quarts. However the total capacity on the THM125C transmission is 7 Quarts. On the 4T60-E transmission it is 13.4 quarts. My advice if you wish to replace it all is to have it done by a professional. If you are just draining the pan and replacing the filter then park on level surface, add 5.5 quarts and then start the engine and let the transmission reach full operating temperature. Add enough to reach the full mark. Do not overfill! Use Dexron 3 A/T fluid.

How much trans fluid needed after filter change on 1997 dodge caravan

My 1997 Caravan manual states that the trans fluid capacity is 8.5 quarts. However, in the transmission oil change section, it says to drop the pan, drain the oil, replace the filter and add 4 quarts of new fluid. This tells me that the torque converter is not draining so you are in fact, only changing "half" of the transmission fluid.

When changing transmission pan gasket and filter, how many quarts of fluid will i replace

Which engine does your truck have?? Most passenger type trucks/cars today are in the 5-7 quart range when you do a drain/refill filter change.

I recommend using the OEM fluid as well or at least one approved by them. Transmissions can be really fickle about what fluid goes in them.... to the point of operating so poorly that some shops would replace/rebuild them when all they need is correct fluid.
