SOURCE: 2004 duramax black smoke and sputtering when

Black smoke means "fuel not being combusted" or "runnig rich". I have no doubt you have gasoline. Your spark may not be burning the gas. Is there a check eng lite? If EGR was sticking, you would probably get a check engine light for this. If your truck has a Vortec design, I would find out if you need a new "spider". What is your mileage? Are you due for a tune up? What spark plugs are you using? Vortec? "Not all the time" sounds like intermittent. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? Can't hurt to change this. This would be the actaul starting point for me. I would change the fuel filter which is under the driver under the chasis. You will need a 16MM and a 20MM. USE ONLY LINE WRENCHES. You may need a fuel line disconnect kit too depending on your model. Notice it only happens on acceleration? that is when you are forcing even more fuel thru the system, but not enough of a fuel stream make cause sputtering and when the fuel comes thru too rich that would be the black smoke. It sounds like you have the 2 extremes. is there afuel regulator on your vehicle? If so, you may need to change that too. Good luck.

SOURCE: Excessive black exhaust on 2003 GMC Sierra Duramax Diesel.

This is what i would try (cheapest first) redexe/wyyns
injector cleaner, double dose, then i have put 1gal gas in 10gal diesel to increase burn temp (you may encounter a hot start problem temporarilly)then if still smoking, get a compresion check on the engine(this will tell you volumes)
by the way the NATO tanks put in 1/3 gas in diesel to stop it freezing in arctic conditions.any more than 1/3 can result in problems.

2001 eclispe gt smells of gas, engine codes p0101, p0107

P0101 is the MAF (mass air flow) sensor that measure the amount of air entering the engine. Not enough air means rich running and a possible cause of fuel smell. Apart from running a little rougher there aren't always many signs that something is wrong.
P0107 is the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor and responds to changes in manifold inlet pressure (vacuum). Problems cause include hard to start, long cranking times, sputtering/missing, blowing black smoke, poor fuel economy.

Why does my 2001 chevy duramax smoke when it idles

This happens when the vacuum in the manifold is at maximum and the air is drawn down past the valve stems into the combustion chamber. IT takes oil with it and so when you increase the RPM's ( moving off at lights)the burnt oil in the exhaust is expelled as a cloud of smoke . The fix here is to replace the valve stem seals that have gone hard/cracked and are no longer sealing on the valve stems

sir I am pretty sure it is the k and n filter...The oil inside the filter at times will **** through and dirty the maf sensor and throw this code...The metering cant hold a proper charge to measure air flow.I have seen this three times...I rcommend a denzo maf sensor and airaid cone air dryer or the mina gallery air dryer. These work flawless....and filter with a oil charge will cause this code.the other two codes are cyle and readiness codes that are performed by the cars ecu each time it is parked to check all modules for malfuction or codes...Remember codes are cycled between every two ignition or crank cycles unless you have complete failer of a module or drive train.

2004 x-type 3.0 v6 152,000 miles showed codes P0171, P0174, P2096, P2098, P0101, P0171 pd, P1000.

check for vacuum leaks or a faulty mass air flow sensor. all the codes have to do with engine too lean(too much air).
