When you changed the joint, I'm assuming you had the shaft out. A common problem occurs when you put the shaft back in, it doesn't fully seat in the transaxle and then the differential is only connected to one wheel so it can't transmit power. You will have to disconnect the lower ball joint again, move the lower control arm down a bit, so that you can push the axle into the splines of the transmission.

well you replace it, however it is 17 years old and you may find other things such as the control arm and ball joint are beyond their service life as well. remanufactured shaft is going to be a hundred, labor about 200 hundred. stay away from dealers.
hate to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds as if you may have waited to long to have your cv joint replaced and now it has possibly caused some internal damge that may even have affected your transmission, but all hope isnt lost, try and have the vehicle twoed to a shop you trust and have them take the joint out and check for what type of damages anwhat the repair cost would be
The hood latch pull hamdel should be next to your left foot mounted on the kick panel. The noise is probally a CV-joint going out on one of your front drive axles. there should be a rubber boot over the joint, and it is busted. making dirt & road film, plus water washing the grease out from around the CV-joint. You will need to replace it. About $100.00 per axle, if you do the work????
