2003 Chevrolet Cavalier Logo
Julie Posted on Apr 08, 2013

I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier, and currently it is making a loud thumping noise in the front and at high speeds it begins to vibrate. We have replaced transmission fluid, axel arms, and we are running out of ideas. Now it makes a loud noise somewhat like a never ending exceleration. Any ideas of what it could be?

SOURCE: Terrible Front End noise

I would agree with the hub bearing solution. I also have a 2001 Cavalier and recently replaced both hub bearings. The sound is quite loud and does get worse the faster you drive. Once I got mine replaced, I couldn't believe how quiet my car ran. My dad works with a guy who does a lot of work on Cavalier's and has noticed that first the left hub bearing goes bad, soon followed by the right after about 60,000 miles.

SOURCE: 2003 chevy tahoe front rear end fluid

i think what you are talking about is the front differential. you will wanna put gear oil in it. the correct weight would be found in your manual.

SOURCE: Front End Noise, Chev Cavalier

It sounds like you have a bad c v or constant velocity joint. Look under the car next to the wheel look for a rubber accordian type unit, if the rubber is torn or lose the grease has escaped and damaged the joint. You can replace it yourself, but if your not mechanically inclined would say take it to a shop.

SOURCE: 2004 chevy cavalier makes a ''knocking'' sound

This could be any number of things. It could be your CV axle going bad, your tie rod joint has gone bad, your lower ball joint has gone bad. More than likely it will be your CV axle. What you need to look for is rips on any of the boots for these parts. The one that has the rip will more than likely be your problem. Just check for grease coming out of any of these parts and you will find your culprit because it has dried up and is causing the knocking sound. Let me know if you have any further questions. 2003 chevy cavalier, up around the manifold is making a loud can you help me?

check real close, it is either a cracked manifold. or the manifold gasket are bad. while running engine put hand around manifold, but do not touch it or you will get burnt. this way if it is leaking, you will feel the exhaust coming out. Hope this helps, Good-Day!

What is the cause of continual thumping (appears to be coming from back of car) and violently shaking?

Many times, rear tires that are out of round or severely cupped or feathered, or that are out of balance can create this type of issue. My first recommendation would be to have them and the wheels on the rear of the car inspected. There may not seem like there is much wrong visibly if you look at just the tread of the tires, but a good tire tech can spin them up and give you some solutions, and the inspection itself is inexpensive. Hope this helps.

I have a 2003 chevy cavalier. i just recharged the ac but when i put it on high it makes a loud noise. tracked the noise down to under the dash on the passenger side. what is that part called and should it...

THE LOUD NOISE IS PROBABLY COMING FROM THE BLOWER MOTOR WHICH IS LOCATED IN THAT AREA. THESE SOMETIMES MAKE A LITTLE NOISE BUT IF THIS NOISE IS LOUD OR JUST DOESNT SOUND RIGHT, THE MOTOR COULD BE GOING BAD.
