The trunk lid release switch on my 2009 cts is not working any more. The remote and the button on front driverside door still open trunk. I am guessing the swith needs to be replaced or a loose wire. is this something I can fix my self or should I take it to shop? Not in warranty anymore.
Does it make any noise when you attempt to unlock it? if so it could just need you to realign the latch. but if you hear no sound at all then its electrical and I would check the fuse next. If fuse is good put a multimeter on the solenoid then to the ground and try to unlock it to make sure you are getting power to the solenoid. If you are getting power its the solenoid that need replacement. WebRepcurrentVotenoRatingnoWeight
Ed, thanks for reply, the fuse is OK and no noise when I push trunk handle. As I said it works with remote and front door button. Is the solenoid the black rubber handle you push on outside to open trunk?
If the clicker still works and the door still works then its the valet switch in the glove box.
My car does not come equipped with a valet switch.

Fold down rear seat and climb in the trunk....there is a manual release at the center of the trunk lid. (mandated by the government to kids don't get trapped in the trunk).

I had a similar problem with my TT Roadster and it was a problem with my central locking system, it temporarily disengaged after a minor incident with the rain while my top was down. Anyway for me it was simply a matter of time before the system reengaged it's self it took maybe a week or so, but to get around the problem, behind your passenger seat there is a storage compartment, pull the lever in the storage compartment to open the trunk, once in the trunk on the left sidewall of the trunk there is a seamless square open that square and there is a black pulley in there, pull on that and your gas tank should open. I hope this help.

THERE IS A SWITCH, BUT U WILL FIND THAT YOU MUST REPLACE THE MOTOR/ACTUATOR TO CORRECT THIS, I HAVE A VAST AMOUNT OF FIELD EXPERIENCE ON THESE AUTO TRUNK LATCHES.
I had this problem on my 2005 s type. The problem was the valet switch in the glove box was in the lock position.i pressed it ,and now it works fine.Try this..

you need to remove the trim cover on the inside of the trunk lid. it sounds like the solenoid is jamming. the solenoid should flick out against a lever that will release the trunk lid and then return back again within a split second. if it stays out then it is jamming, and thus holding the truncks locking mechanism open.
the solenoid may also jam shut and therefor not release the lock. if you can see this happening then replace the solenoid.
