Trunk Lid Release Switch on 2009 cts not working

The trunk lid release switch on my 2009 cts is not working any more. The remote and the button on front driverside door still open trunk. I am guessing the swith needs to be replaced or a loose wire. is this something I can fix my self or should I take it to shop? Not in warranty anymore.

Ed, thanks for reply, the fuse is OK and no noise when I push trunk handle. As I said it works with remote and front door button. Is the solenoid the black rubber handle you push on outside to open trunk?

Does it make any noise when you attempt to unlock it? if so it could just need you to realign the latch. but if you hear no sound at all then its electrical and I would check the fuse next. If fuse is good put a multimeter on the solenoid then to the ground and try to unlock it to make sure you are getting power to the solenoid. If you are getting power its the solenoid that need replacement. WebRepcurrentVotenoRatingnoWeight

SOURCE: i can't open the lid

I had a similar problem with my TT Roadster and it was a problem with my central locking system, it temporarily disengaged after a minor incident with the rain while my top was down. Anyway for me it was simply a matter of time before the system reengaged it's self it took maybe a week or so, but to get around the problem, behind your passenger seat there is a storage compartment, pull the lever in the storage compartment to open the trunk, once in the trunk on the left sidewall of the trunk there is a seamless square open that square and there is a black pulley in there, pull on that and your gas tank should open. I hope this help.

SOURCE: 2006 Jetta 2.5 trunk latch operate when really cold

you need to remove the trim cover on the inside of the trunk lid. it sounds like the solenoid is jamming. the solenoid should flick out against a lever that will release the trunk lid and then return back again within a split second. if it stays out then it is jamming, and thus holding the truncks locking mechanism open.
the solenoid may also jam shut and therefor not release the lock. if you can see this happening then replace the solenoid.

2009 lumina trunk not opening with remote or button

Do you know how the system works ? Do you know what a wiring diagram is an how to test electrical circuits with a DVOM - digital volt ohmmeter ? This is how to find the problem .
Circuit/System Description
When the ignition is ON, the body control module (BCM) supplies a signal to the rear compartment lid release switch through the trunk release switch signal circuit. When the rear compartment lid release switch is pressed, the voltage within the signal circuit is pulled low and in response, the BCM applies ground to the trunk release relay control circuit, which energizes the coil side of the trunk relay. The switch side of the trunk relay then closes, supplying battery positive voltage through the relay and the latch motor voltage control circuit to the rear compartment lid latch. The rear compartment lid latch, then releases the rear compartment lid so that it may be manually raised to an open position.
Circuit/System Testing
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid release switch.
Test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
? If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Trunk Switch parameter is Inactive.
? If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and the ground circuit terminal B. Verify the scan tool Trunk Switch parameter is Active.
? If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
Component Testing
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid release switch.
Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal A and the ground terminal B with the switch in the open position.
? If not the specified value, replace the rear compartment lid release switch
Test for less than 2 ohms of between the signal terminal A and the ground terminal B with the switch in the closed position.
? If greater than the specified range, replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
Test for infinite resistance between each terminal and the lid release switch housing/case.
? If not the specified value, replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
hooking up a factory or some other type professional scan tool an checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes should also be done , could make diagnoses easier .

I want to get in the trunk from the backseat of my 2006 Saturn ion, how do I go about that?

You can fold either side of the rear seatback down for more cargo space.
To lower the rear seatback, follow these steps:

Open the trunk and pull one or both of the small handles located in the center of the trunk.
Once the handle is pulled, the seatback can be pushed open through the trunk, or pulled open from the inside of the vehicle.

Sorry ,but you need the trunk open ! What's wrong with your's ? loose your key . trunk release inside the vehicle doesn't work .
Luggage Compartment
Your best bet , have a qualified repair shop check it out . May have DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes stored .
DTC B3267: Trunk Release Output Circuit Low
DTC B3268: Trunk Release Output Circuit High

The rear compartment release circuit consists of the following:
• The intergrated body control module (IBCM) fuse
• The rear compartment lid release relay
• The rear compartment lid lock release actuator
• The rear compartment lid release switch
• The cargo lamp/trunk ajar switch
The rear compartment release circuit operates as follows. Battery positive voltage is applied at all times to the rear compartment lid release relay. The rear compartment lid release relay is energized by either depressing the rear compartment lid release switch, or when the IBCM receives a rear compartment release signal from a key fob. The IBCM then provides a path to ground on the rear compartment lid release relay control circuit, energizing the rear compartment lid release relay. When the rear compartment lid release relay is energized, battery positive voltage is supplied to the rear compartment lid lock release actuator causing the actuator to energize releasing the rear compartment lid. The rear compartment may be released with the dash mounted rear compartment release switch. The ignition must be in the OFF or ACCESSORY positions for the rear compartment to be released with a keyless entry transmitter fob (RFA). The rear compartment may also be released by an OnStar commanded using RFA functionality.

2008 Cadillac CTS push button to open trunk sometimes works

Do you know anything about automotive electronic's ? The trunk release is controlled by electronic control modules . Having the vehicle check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's should be the first step in the diagnostic procedure . Then reading how it work's !
Factory service repair info.
Rear Compartment Lid Release System Components
• Body control module (BCM)
• Remote control door lock receiver
• Interior rear compartment lid release switch
• Exterior rear compartment lid release switch
• Rear compartment lid release actuator
• Trunk release relay

Rear Compartment Lid Release Operation
The interior rear compartment lid release switch receives a signal from the driver door switch assembly (DDSA). When the interior rear compartment lid release switch is activated, the signal circuit is pulled to ground. The DDSA interprets this and sends a GMLAN serial data message to the body control module (BCM) requesting the rear compartment lid be released. The BCM responds by applying battery voltage to the trunk release relay control circuit which energizes the TRUNK RELES relay. The trunk release relay is supplied with battery voltage at all times. With the relay coil energized, the relay switch contacts close allowing battery voltage to flow to the rear compartment lid release actuator causing the rear compartment lid to release. The rear compartment lid release actuator is permanently grounded at G402.

The trunk release relay is located in the rear fuse box located under the back seat.

How do i get into the trunk on my 2003 grandam with no key and my trunk button on my door doesnt work

Voltage is applied at all times through the TRUNK REL/RFA fuse to the rear compartment lid release switch and the switch side of the rear compartment lid release relay. When the release switch is pressed, the following actions occur:
• The switch closes.
• Voltage is applied to the coil side of the rear compartment lid release relay.
When the transaxle is in PARK or NEUTRAL, the rear compartment lid release relay is grounded through the transaxle range switch. With the coil side of the relay energized, the relay contacts close, applying voltage to the rear compartment lid release motor.
If the vehicle is equipped with remote entry, the switch operation is the same, except when the contacts in the rear compartment lid release relay close, voltage is applied through the normally closed contacts of the remote control door lock receiver. This action occurs in order to apply voltage to the rear compartment lid release motor.

Can you check fuse's , relay ? Both are located in the left insturment panel fuse box . Fuse Block - Left I/P
On the left side of the I/P
you need to open the drivers door to get to it ,on very end of the insturment panel .
Do you know anything about relay's , how they work ? If you pull the relay out of the fuse box an look on the bottom you will see four set's of numbers . 30 & 87 . if you took a piece of wire an jumped were this pins plug into the fuse box the trunk would open . provided there is B+ voltage at pin 30 .
There are videos on youtube showing how to test relays and their circuits .

Can not open trunk on a pontiac soltice. No clicking sound from remote or switch in glove box fuses are ok

The rear compartment lid release system consists of the following components:
• Body control module (BCM)
• Folding top cover actuator
• GMLAN serial data link
• Keyless entry transmitter
• Rear compartment lid ajar switch
• Rear compartment lid release actuator
• Rear compartment lid release switch
• Remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR)
• Trunk fuses
• Trunk release relay

Rear Compartment Lid Release System Operation
The rear compartment lid can be released by operating the rear compartment lid release switch or pressing the rear compartment lid release button on the keyless entry transmitter. When the rear compartment lid release switch is operated, the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit to the body control module (BCM) is switched to ground. The BCM receives the rear compartment lid release switch input and applies ground to the trunk release relay control circuit. This energizes the trunk release relay coil, closing the switch side contacts, allowing battery voltage to be applied to the rear compartment lid release actuator and folding top cover actuator, releasing the buttresses and opening the rear compartment lid. Ground for the rear compartment lid release switch is provided at G300. The rear compartment lid ajar switch, rear compartment lid release actuator, and folding top cover actuator are provided ground at G301. The rear compartment lid will not release until the vehicle speed is zero and in park.

Do you know what DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are ?
DTC B3265 01 : Trunk Relay Output Short to Battery
DTC B3265 06 : Trunk Relay Output Short to Ground or Open

Do you know what a relay is an how it works ? TRUNK release relay located in the underhood fuse / relay box.

My remote is bad and the button on the door of my 2008 saturn aura xr will not open the trunk

How about a key ?

Luggage Compartment Description and Operation (Sedan)
Rear Compartment Lid Release
The rear compartment lid can be released in one of three ways:
• Inserting the key into the key lock cylinder, if equipped
• Operating the rear compartment lid release switch
• Using the keyless entry fob
To operate rear compartment lid with the rear compartment lid release switch or with the rear compartment release button on the key fob, the gear selector may be in any position, but vehicle speed must equal 0 for the rear compartment lid to release.
When the rear compartment lid release switch is pushed, the rear compartment lid release signal circuit to the body control module (BCM) is grounded. BCM then grounds the coil side of the trunk release relay through the trunk release relay control circuit. With this voltage is applied to the rear compartment lid release actuator, opening the rear compartment.

do you know how to do electrical testing ?

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Trunk Release Switch parameter while pressing and releasing the rear compartment lid release switch. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.
? If the parameter does not change, refer to Trunk Release Switch Malfunction.
Command the trunk release with a scan tool, the rear compartment lid latch should release the trunk lid.
? If the rear compartment lid latch does not release, refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Malfunction

You may want to take it to a repair shop .
