A little more detail...I may have had the same problems as you but not sure...believe me. It was weird. It had to do with my automatic door lock braking...being stuck...causing fuse problems. Totally weird and hard to pin point!!

Do you know if they also replaced the sending unit in the tank ?
It could also be a problem with the gauge on the dash.

1991 honda accord starts intermittently. When it doesn't the gas guage goes below E. Gets spark, no fuel. Already changed main relay.

Hey man if you already changed out the relay i would try changing your fuel pump and sending unit that should stop both of your problems.

Fuel pump works intermittantly, have checked pump relay, wiring around sending unit, and inertia switch.

Other than putting an oscilloscope on the
fuel pump ,all you can to is change it

They last from 4 years to 20 years

It is a very tiny motor
The brgs wear & the armature binds up, as

Fuel Filter Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Remove fuel tank.
  2. Remove fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit.
  3. Remove fuel filter from fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit.
To Install:
  1. Install fuel filter to fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit.
  2. Install fuel pump/fuel gauge sending unit.
  3. Install fuel tank.
---
However, I would look at ignition or tune up issues rather than simply a fuel filter.

Find out what the engine problem is by having the engine's computer scanned through the OBD-II port.

I have an '05 Monte Carlo SS supercharged and my problem is with the fuel gauge. It used to work intermittently, now it reads whereever it wants. It does drop (at least most of the time) when the tank...

There was an issue with the sending unit itself. There were 4 or 5 thin contact points on the sending unit. The new ones have 3 thicker contact points, they tend to last longer. As the contacts break off one by one the fuel gauge becomes intermittent and then nothing.

Hi: Sounds like the fuel pump/sending unit has a bad ground or the connector is corroded causing intermittant working. Check the plug on the fuel sending unit for corrosion and clean. I hope this can help you...Besides its free info!!

Intermittent fuel pump engagement when turning key - 2001 Taurus

try cleaning the connector that goes to the fuel pump, sometimes they corrode on inside. If that does not fix, test the wires feeding fuel pump with a multi meter until the condition shows itself again, if voltage drops to zero or very low then wiring problem, if voltage is unchanged with problem and fuel pump is not working and connectors are all clean, try replacement of fuel pump.

I replaced my fuel pump and sending unit, Gauge still not working

The live feed wire to the sender unit is earthing out intermittently to the car body. Check the wiring for any breakage in the insulation, probably local to the sending unit.
