Car is in good shape, only 95,000 miles but is leaking oil on garage floor. I don't have any knowledge re cars and are dealing with a new garage mechanic. They did a used car review for $50 and all looked good except for oil pan gasket leak and slight leak in head gasket. He suggested not doing anything about the latter problem yet.

Hello. Let me try to assist you the best I can, with the hope of achieving a FixYa rating from you for my assistance.
Changing the rear valve cover gasket on your vehicle would be not considered a "real" big job, but IS a time-consuming job.
In order to remove the rear cover, you first have to remove the intake plenum. If you do not remove the plenum, you can't get to the valve cover bolts that are under the plenum. After the plenum is off, the valve cover is easy to access. You will also need to replace the intake plenum gasket, if you do the job yourself.
I hope this information has satisfied your question.
Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance!

I have the same car and the same problem. I can see the oil shooting out at the (upside down) rear, right side of the oil pan. This side of the oil pan is covered by a piece of plastic foam. There are no bolts on this side of the pan. Toyota recommends grey Formagaskit to seal the pan. The natural flow for this leak is all over the bell housing. The piece of plastic foam is attached to bell housing inspection cover. Good Luck!!!
