1998 pontiac sunfire manual. Car starts but sputters and then dies and is completly dead but in the morning will start again and then die. I changed the coil pack but still the same. what can it be?

It ran fine and then one night went to start it and then it stalled and then started it and it ran good for 10 seconds and then started sputtering and went to a low idle. now the car will start and run with that low idle and then eventually die the car out and battery seems dead but next day it will run again. Battery light came on too. what can it be?

It could be the ICM. Located underneath the coil packs.

Check fuel pressure. Weak or failing fuel pump.

You can't do any testing, until you have a battery
that will take and hold a charge

Then you move on to testing the Alternator, then
Fuel Pressure & continue on with other testing

It's the ICM,ignition control module. It's quite common.Under your coil packs is a plate that short out and the firing order gets confused.

Security is set. Could be one problem. Fuel system can do this, but rarely. Takes a scanner to see where to look first.

No gas getting to filter,,, car has been running fine

Change the fuel pump or make sure the fuel safety cut off switch didn't trip or look for a blown fuse. The fuel cut off is usually found in the trunk.

1992 cavalier. starts and drives fine, but will die after it's been driven if i try to put it in gear again. What's the problem? bought it site unseen, drove it home about 7 miles and it started sputtering...

Try pulling the vacuum line off of the EGR valve when the engine is warm and starts to sputter. If it runs good cold and then dies when warm and won't start again until the engine cools it is most likely a bad or sticking EGR valve. Try the procedure to confirm it is the EGR. You can check the internet for location and an image of the EGR valve for your specific car. Please rate me on this answer.

STARTING AND DYING

I would without a doubt check the fue pressure on this vehicle. The schrader valve is located on the p.side of the fuel rail. If low, check the fuel filter. For the price I personally would change the filter just for the piece of mind. On the side of that the fuel was going into the engine, blow air through onto a clean rag to see what debris was in the filter.
