Overheating when I sit idle.

Over heating the engine is a serious concern. With the hood raised you should hear the motorized fan turn on just behind the radiator as the engine requires additional cooling.. If you look in from the rear of the radiator you should see the fan blades.

This electric powered motor operates on a thermostat and when the engine temperature rises this fan should come on. I'm assuming from your description that when driving and air is flowing through the radiator as the car travels the engine is nor overheating.

Check fan motor thermostat, check fan motor and check wiring.

My fan will not shut off when I shut the engine off

How long does it run? some cars will run the fan for a few minutes to ensure that too much heat does not build up under the hood. Wait for 5 minutes and see if it is still running when the engine is off. If it is you may have a bad temperature sensor. Does the engine temperature gauge work properly?

Why does 2000 s40 volvo turbo runs hot and the fan stays on after shut off

fans are designed to run on after you shut engine down as engine temperature rise after switching off . running hot could be caused by the top hose having gone soft when you rev the engine the water pump sucks the hose flat stopping the coolant flow or the radiator is blocked and need flushing out

How can I tell if the engine cooling fan is functioning properly?

The cooling fan is made to come on when the engine reaches a certain temperature. To give a simple and general test - turn the AC on high - it your AC and fan are both working correctly the fan should come on almost immediately. If not within very few minutes like 5 or 8.
Also at operating temperature the fan will run as well. In the early morning before you start the car open the hood - fill the radiator while the engine is still cold. start the engine and wait about 10 minutes or so. The fan should come on before the engine over heats. This may take up to 20 minutes and the fan is designed to run after the car is shut off IF - the temperature is hot enough.

Engine runs hot after a few minutes of running the car

That is very vague. Have you checked the radiator, and when it is hot does the electric cooling fan come on? Try running the A/C and see if the cooling fan comes on. Does it run hot on the highway or just in city traffic? I need some more details to try and narrow it down. There are many things it could be. Low coolant, stuck thermostat, air in the cooling system, bad fan motor, fan motor relay (also known as fan switch), or temp sensor.

Poor heat inside car. some heat when fan on low but when fanspeed is increased heat is lost.

Hello,
It sounds like you have an issue with the thermostat, or blockage in your cooling system.
Here's a few things you can do to check both.
How to test the thermostat in most vehicles;
Make sure the heater is off, start the engine and let it run for 6 to 8 minutes, ( this will allow the
engine to reach, " normal operating temperature "), from the inside of the vehicle turn the heater
temperature on high and turn the fan speed on high.
1. Listen very closely for a click sound from the engine, ( most thermostats make a click when
they open )
2. Watch your temperature guage, it should begin to lower as the coolant starts to circulate.
3. Usually within a few minutes the radiator fan will kick.

If the thermostat appears to be working, do the following.
Turn the engine off. While it's still hot, carefully reach back behind the engine, at the firewall, you should see 2 hoses beside each other, ( around 1 inch in diameter ), feel both of these hoses. If they're both hot then the coolant is circulating fine, but if only one of them are hot, that means something is blocking the coolant from running through the heater core.
If you have blockage, the best thing you can do is have the cooling system flushed and refilled.

I hope this helps you.

AC cools then blows hot air, tempature needle goes up & down

Sounds like the thermostat is trying to stick, and is causing the engine to over heat, therefore condenser is not cooling the freon down enough to cool.Have the thermostat changed and the cooling system bled out, this is most likely the cause.

NISSAN TITAN A/C BLOWS HOT THEN COLD THEN HOT AGAIN, MORE COOL WHEN MOVING THEN AT A STOP.

check that your radiator fans are working. what is happening is that when you are stopped, your pump is having a pressure build up since the freon isn't being cooled and possibly the pump will stop spinning and start to screech because of the pressure. When you are moving the fans don't need to run and the freon is being cooled and so everything is working normally. Your fans should turn on while sitting still for a few minutes. If your engine temp is over half, they should be on. Let me know if you have any other questions with this

1994 Hyundai Excel Air conditioning RADIATOR´S FAN works always very fast

this not really a problem as the fan speed is controlled by the high preasure switch in the ac system the hotter it is outside the higher the preassure will be in the system as hot as its been the preasure is high already when the compressor cycles it pulls suction on one side and outputs high preasure on the other the fans cool the condenser the higher the ambient temp the faster they go so all is fine...
