96 tercel won't shift at all AT

i take it is a automatic check gearbox transmission fluid or the torque converter may be at fault

Keep driving it like that & it won't work at all

When ever you even think you have a transmission
issue,you immediately stop using the vehicle or you
end up rebuilding the trans,your call,your money & lots of it

Ask yourself ---Why would changing the fluid do anything?

Old oil out / New oil in ?

You change trans fluid because it breaks down from the heat
That is it's job,to remove heat or your trans fails

Trans & Power Steering get changed every 3 years & not
over 30,000 miles ever on ALL Vehicles

If you don't want to take it to a trans shop etc.then
your not going to get it repaired

If you keep driving it,then the trans will have to come out
& be rebuilt.

You may have a bad Trans Solenoid Pressure Control Pack

If you have been driving it with it slipping,your pretty much done

you check the ATF (trans oil) condition this good indiccator for your trans status . (burn mean clutch inside burn ) have small chips . change ATF and filter and make sure it;s in level.

Are you saying the automatic transmission will not shift into gear or the shifter won't move into the correct position?

It sounds like you have transmission problems but it could be that your linkage is loose or defective. Not enough information to give you a good starting place.

Replace the vehicle speed sensor, it's located in the tailhousing of the transfercase

Test the transmission module. It controls everything the transmission does, the timing of shift points, gear selection, overdrive, etc

where ever you are geting the new transmission from and find out if you need a 3 or 4 speed from looking it up from the vin# on the vehicle.

I have a 96 toyota tercel and the last gear sometimes shifts late... How can I solve this problem?
