Pop the trunk open and on the inside opposite of where the tail light is,you will see black plastic wing nuts. These are mounting nuts and you need to remove them to get the tail light off.Once off,you will see a couple of bulb sockets that twist and lock into place on the taillight.Look for a tab on the side of the socket, push it in and turn counter clockwise.Once you have done that it should pull out and expose the bulb, then the bulb just pulls out of the socket.

www.faqqq.com/.../tail-light-problem-1986-dodge-aries-4-door-123242... Question Product: 1986 Dodge Aries 4 Door Question Details: Tail light problem I ...Most people suspect a bad bulb and when they go to change it, it lights up.
How Do You Change Tail Light Bulb Remove the wiring harness from the tail light lens assembly. Disconnect tail light bulb from the wiring harness socket. Reconnect the wiring harness to the tail light lens assembly. To confirm proper installation of the new tail light bulb, place the key in the on position. IT IS VERY SIMPLE OR GO TO AUTOZONE AND HAVE THEM CHANGE IT OUT FOR YOU AND WATCH THEM ONCE. GOOD LUCK.
Access to the tail light cluster should be through panels in the rear corners of the vehicle. Remove the panel and you can remove the tail light cluster to replace the bulbs. This is the position on most sedans, unless, like on pick-ups, the tail light lenses have screws which allow the lenses to be removed to change the bulbs.
Some bulbs can be changed without removing the tail light. First check to see if there is an access panel in the trunk trim near the tail light. If there is, you can twist the turn signal socket counter-clockwise to remove it from the unit. If there is no access panel you will have to remove the portion of trim blocking the tail light. This is usually held in by a few small clips. After it is removed you can follow the directions above.
Lastly, some models have to have the tail light removed to change a bulb. The bolts will either be behind the trunk trim or on the inside edge of the tail light.
Once the bulb is changed just reverse the steps to put it back together.
Good Luck!!
The
process for replacing tail light bulbs is the same in all models. If
you have a burnt-out tail light bulb, you may need to replace the
brake light, the reverse light or the turn signal. The procedure to
replace each of the bulbs is the same.
Instructions
1.
Open the Hummer's rear swing gate. This will expose the edge of the
vehicle's tail light assembly. You'll see two small Phillips head
screws that hold the tail light assembly in place. Put on your
gloves.
2.
Remove the two screws from the tail light assembly. Pull the tail
light out and inspect the back for two bulbs. The top bulb is the
brake light and turn signal. The bottom bulb is the reverse bulb.
Determine which bulb you need to replace.
3Rotate
the bulb's socket counterclockwise to disconnect it. Unplug the bulb
from its socket.
4Push
the replacement bulb into its socket firmly. Insert the socket back
into the tail light. Turn it clockwise to secure it in place.
5Place
the tail light into its cradle. Hold it with one hand and replace
the Phillips head screws with the other.
Open rear hatch. Remove two mounting screws at the side corner which mount the tail light assy to the body. The whole tail light assy can now be removed. Twist desired bulb holder counterclock wise to remove, then pull bulb to remove. Reinstall in reverse order.
