Someone told me to wd-40 the striker on the door, which I did but it didn't work. When the problem 1st began, the light would come on when door was barely open, then as it opened further, it would flash off and on. The passenger door works fine and the headlight switch turns it on just fine also.

It used to be in my day a simple plunge switch locate in the door jamb happily being corroded over time from condensation, some have a surface plate with a screw (earth) others are a push in sprung clip fix which can be prised out with plug in wire loom.
The link gives you an idea of various styles and is spotted at the doors hinge side mostly sticking out like a peg, as for wd-40 its a great fluid but those plastic switches are not worth mucking about with unless you do a (take apart clean) just fit a new one ( get some for other areas while you at it) some security devices can rely on them.

It sounds like the door lock rod has become detached from the lock rod actuator. The plastic retainer clip that holds it in place can become dislodged causing them to separate. Fixing this problem is not that difficult but, it does require removal of the inner door panel.

Sounds as though you have an exposed electrical connection that's either getting splashed from the tires, or the moisture is creating a temporary disconnection. This can happen, but once it dries it will resume working. I would have your electrical system checked. I would also have your headlight switch checked for a possible short.
