Check oil level on dipstick. Check for loose connection on oil pressure sender unit. Have the oil pressure checked using a master gauge.

High temp low oil pressure light comes on after driving for a few minutes, then off when engine at driving rpm. At stop light (idle or low rpm) light comes back on. Normal driving it goes out.

You need to find out why you have low oil pressure. It is normal that as engine rpm's increase, the oil pressure will rise- the oil pump is moving oil faster. Even though your light goes out, you could still have critically low oil pressure. There should be sufficient pressure at idle to keep the light off. The light will come on when your oil pressure is almost nil- I believe for some it's as low as 8 psi. Normally, oil pressure at idle is specified anywhere from 15 to 40 psi. You would have to check specifications for your Expedition. To verify oil pressure, hook up a mechanical gauge at the oil pressure sending unit on the engine block. Check with a local shop.

The causes run from easy, simple to budget busting ruin. Low oil level, wrong grade oil, real old oil, oil leaks, internal oil leaks, worn oil pump, worn crankshaft bearings. It was pretty common on older very high mileage cars to have a fluttering oil light at stops and idle. It was time for a rebuild, or time to look for another car.

I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar and the gauge inside tells me that the engine is over heating, no heat is coming from the heater when I turn it on, the fan for the engine is running at full blast, the engine...

Hi,

The overheating and lack of cabin heat both point to a failed engine thermostat which would be stuck closed. At the warm up stage, the coolant stays in the engine block to bring the engine to efficient operating temperature, then it opens and circulates the coolant through the radiator and heat core. If the thermostat is stuck closed, the engine will overheat, and coolant will never reach the heater core, and you will not get cabin heat.

Blinking oil light at idle which goes away during driving could be a low oil level, but may also be a drop in oil pressue. You could have a clogged oil fliter (at best) pickup tube, or a failing oil pump.

Oil light stays on for over a minute after starting but eventually goes out. Is this normal ? If not, what could it be ? (6.0l V8 engine.)

No, not normal for that year of car. Are you using multivis oil? Are you operating at low temps? How many miles on the engine? Does it come on at stops or no? If yes, this is more normal after 150K miles. If you want the truck to last, you will need a new oil pump soon.

When I come to a stop my oil light comes on. When I drive the oil light goes off. I have checked oil-its full. And I had the oil sensor replaced.

how about that when u come to a sudden stop the oil rushes forward in the sump starving the oil pickup temp. of oil??

Coolant sensor may be the problem. It is located near the thermostat housing. It may be sticking between modes & not operating properly. Also make sure coolant is circulating in system.

Oil light comes on after car is warmed up

MOST COMMON ISSUE WITH THE OIL LIGHT IS THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT, REPLACE IT, ALSO 3/4 SCALE TEMP IS NORMAL, THAT IS WHEN THE COOLING FAN KICKS ON, ABOUT 230 DEGREE'S F.
