Blinkers act like flashers and wipers only work on high

First the blinker lights on the dashboard stayed on all the time when the car was running but they wouldn't work. we replaced the signal stalk with one from the junkyard and nothing was different, also replaced the flasher relay and no change but a week later the problem changed to the dashboard did not have blinker lights on continually, when the turn signal goes on it acts like flashers except the front right signal. it stays lit all the time not blinking unless you turn the signal on. wipers still only work on high and will stop in the middle of the window if that's when you turn them off. Before this whole problem began the wipers intermittant actually worked for one day. they had never worked since we bought the van 2 years ago.

SOURCE: How to change the turn signal flasher?

Check the the bulbs at the front and rear of the vehicle work. If one is not lit up, replace that one. On some of the earlier model cars the blinkers would stay solid and not flash when one or both bulbs were blown. Modern cars have a rapid flash when one or both are blown

1990 f150 straight 6 it's happened before, blinkers not wrkg and rear lights. replaced blinker switch last time

If your brake lights are working, then the wiring to the turn signals are good. Check the turn signal flasher which is under the dash. Try your emergency flashers. Do they work?

Need a diagram for how to find the flasher in a 1999 dodge stratus..it's not in the fuse boxes

Simple method without mystery:
  1. Turn blinker flashers on;
  2. Listen for clicking;
  3. Find source of clicking. It is the flasher. :)
NOTE: Emergency flashers and blinkers usually use a separate flasher unit, but one is close to the other. If your blinkers do not work but your emergency flashers do, find the emergency flasher unit by finding the source of clicking, then locate the blinker flasher nearby. They will ALWAYS be underneath the dashboard on the driver side.

The blinkers only work some of the time. All bulbs are good and the emergency flashers work. I found the flasher for the blinkers, but if it is bad, will the blinkers work some of the time and other times...

you need a signal flasher to correct the problem.flashers will act this way some times when they have an internal problem with the bi-metallic strip that actually completes the circuit and makes the clicking sound.make sure you have found the signal flasher and not the hazard flasher as they look the same.with the hazard flashers on you can see what the signal flasher will look like and it is in the fuse panel.

My blinkers and flashers all quit working at the same time. Indicator lights in the dash won't even light up. Do flashers and blinkers run off the same fuse?

The do not run off the same fuse but they do run off the same blinker. Try turning on the key, click the left/right (check both) turn signal and then operate the 4 ways on and off at the same time. Work the 4 way switch back and forth 10 to 25 times and see if you get any short winks or blinks from the system.
Turn signals are usually on their own fuse in the glove box and hazard are on with the brake fuse. If this does not work, I would look at the blinker. It is possibly bad. Check each pin of the blinker and see if there is power there when you turn on the 4 ways or turn signals. Replace Blinker. Make calls to parts stores and dealer for location of this blinker.

TURN SIGNAL, BRAKE & HAZARD LIGHTS

No Turn Signal Operation (blinker)The turn signal lights in your car are a basic electrical system that controls the front and rear blinker lights to alert the intended direction of the vehicle. We have listed some of the most common problems and repair troubleshooting tips below:
Troubleshooting Procedure
To start troubleshooting this problem:
  • Turn the key to the on position (do not start engine)
  • Inspect the system fuse located in the fuse panel and replace if needed. If you cannot find the location of the blinker fuse consult your owner's manual or an online repair manual
  • When a blinker flasher fails it can cause blinker lights to say on, not blink, or not go on at all. To test the blinker system flasher, remove the flasher unit and insert a jumper wire between the two terminals. If blinker stays on in both directions without blinking, replace the flasher. If you cannot find the location of the blinker flasher consult your owners manual or an online repair manual.
