1996 Mazda 626 4 cylinder fuel pump?

When I try to start my car, the engine tries and tries and tries to turn over. Sometimes it will catch after a while, but only barely, then die. If that happens, I can immediately try again and it will start quickly. Sometimes it's not that difficult. When I accelerate on the highway to get up to speed, my car hesitates for a few seconds around 3500 RPM and feels like it almost loses power.
I just changed my fuel filter, but I'm thinking I need to change the fuel pump. Does anybody know how to do that?

Check the Fuel injection system (injectors) and the intake manifold. It might also be wise to check the alternator as well as the starter coil and also the electronic distributor

SOURCE: car hesitates while driving on highway. with AC on

Check for any vacuum leaks by spraying WD-40 all around the top section of the engine while it is running. If you here the engine start to stumble then concentrate the spray on that area until you locate a loose or worn vacuum line. Also you may have to have your throttle position switch(tps) and or your crankshaft position sensor(cps) tested for integrity.

Fuel filter location for 1995 Mazda 626

The fuel filter is attached to a bracket located in the left rear of the engine compartment. Look down in the space between the master cylinder fluid reservoir and the rear of the air filter compartment, you will be looking at the top of the fuel filter cannister. It's very hard to get at.
