Hot-film air mass sensor when diagnose say is damaged, replace it!!! Trouble when car will take up to 5.sec. is associated with this! Bank 1, the accumulated
value of lambdasond the left side of the engine cylinders. While the
problem is in the ignition at the 4th cylinder, Bank-1 data were then
evaluated as poor.Allow change fourth ignition coil and the CAN
mistake Dont look it! is an accidental fault! eventually allow for
BMW servicing erase all the mistakes and make a new adaptation of the
engine throttle body, and adaptation of the engine in to "0" setting

I have had the ecu box full of water, this car i had was amazing how it ran, it was a 51 plate 2001 740il, no signs of water until u look close, i could see a water line, took apart ecu to find more corrosion etc then i ever seen in my life.
i cleaned it and it never worked again.
i was getting funny starting and msgs on dash board. hope this helps.

The car is in limp mode. P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected You need to clear fault codes with a scanner and see if the same fault occurs, if so, check the injectors for those cylinders. Swop cyl 3 injector with cyl 4 injector, if you get a code P0304, the injector is not working, and needs to be checked for a bad connection or maybe the injector is faulty, do the same with cyl 6, swop with cyl 5 Please keep me posted
have throttle body checked also the MDK throttle motor,
make sure that the dealer has followed service bulletin 12 07 99 for procedure to replace the MDK throttle motor

The OBDII people suggest that before you replace the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with compressed air or by using a cleaner on the mass air flow sensor. Truly, all that may be wrong is a build-up of dirt.Unfortunately, in your case, replacing the Mass Air Flow did not work.After replacement, did you reset the code and drive the vehicle?.

MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR (MAF SENSOR) This hot film type air flow sensor is composed of a hot film sensor, housing, and a metering duct (hybrid, sensor element). The mass airflow rate is measured by detection of heat transfer from a hot film probe. A change in the mass air flow rate will cause a change in the amount of heat being transferred from the hot film probe surface to the air flow. This results in a change in temperature of the hot film probe and a change of resistance.

HI, your car is most likely going into limp mode. The number one cause of this computer shut down restriction- is a Mass-Air Flow sensor malfunction. Fuel trims become erratic and the engine computer puts a order in to limit performance until the original problem is resolved. The fact that you can get performance back after shutting down car and restarting is that the computer is rebooting and most likely the sensor is now functioning properly and or has not set the number of faults required for limp mode. What I would do is have someone with a scanner look for DTC's or engine problem codes, and remember the following: Lean or Rich fuel trims detected bank 1 bank 2 (is a Mass Air flow problem)Replace Mass Air flow sensor assembly. Accelerator position high or low and or erratic is most likely (Pedal sensor) Replace Pedal assembly. Good Luck.
If this started suddenly with no other symptoms, then probably your car's computer has detected something wrong and put the car into limp mode, which means you can't go fast but you can limp home. The computer gathers data from sensors which measure everything from oxygen levels to transmission data. If it gets a bad reading from any one of them, it tries to limit damage by limiting your speed. The problem could be a bad sensor, or it could be something more serious. Take it to a mechanic who can read the error codes and go from there.
Could you provide the fault codes you are getting? Also, what repairs have been done so far?
