Motor knock sounds like rocker arms or lifters?

I have a vortec motor 6.0 liter and it is knocking. Some have told me its rocker arms or maybe lifters. I have 315,548 miles on motor and 1 estimate of 1700 dollars to fix all lifters. Is this possible? I'm told its a high preformance motor with roller lifters.

If your engine is knocking the sound with be at the bottom of your oil pan but if you have lifter or rocker arm problems the sound will be at the top of your engine. One other thing you said your car has 315k it might be time to change your oil pump.

SOURCE: 2008 infiniti g37 motor is knocking has 16500 miles on it.

Please change the oil now at the Nissan garage and watch the vehicle closely.

$100 is not so much like getting your car totally knocked.

Good luck and rate this solution/ suggestion.

SOURCE: Engine Knock on a 98 Isuzu Rodeo

Most likely it is a rod bearing and motor would have to be dissassembled to diagnose, you might want think about installing a low milege used replacment since it was run 5 quarts low on motor oil.

SOURCE: engine knocks at idle or low rpm, no load, no smoking or oil loss

Idle at 40 is fine. Do what I said and give it a chance to work...chances that an adjusting nut has loosened up is ) if it's a 4.0 (you didn't say) these have non adjustable valves. Any engine with adjustable valves uses "interference thread" nuts that do not back off.

SOURCE: how to tighten rocker arms

Does the clicking ever go away? valve adjustments are tricky and must be done in a certain sequence. It's best they be done by a knowledgeable mechanic or it can get all messed up. No offence. I'm not sure if the lifters are hydraiulic or solid. If hydraulic, a quart of dexron trans fluid in the oil should free up a sticking lifter. Watch your oil pressure and add only to clean oil and filter. Do not overfill engine. If it calls for 5 quarts then put 4 + the trans fluid. if it quiets down after running for about 10 minutes. a sticky lifter was your problem and crappy oil was the cause.
Good luck.and change the oil again whether it works or not within 50 miles.or once it clrars up.

What would cause a knocking in the motor/engine of a 2010 Chrysler town and Country Touring

A Defective hydraulic valve lifter will make noise, it would be tapping noise, they can be very loud, but I would really need to hear what this is to determine the cause.

What can be the knocking sound on 98 Dodge Dakota 2.5 what a hundred and eighty nine thousand miles on it there's not a timing chain is not the lifters or rocker arms im stumped any help would be grateful

One bad rocker will make a tapping noise and not effect the performance of the motor. If it is a deep dull knock it could be a big end or main bearing problem. Place a stethoscope or a thin metal rod on the motor moving it about with the other end in your ear. This will locate the area of your problem. Amazing what you hear with a rod (Large screwdriver works too)

If i put the rocker arms in wrong on my 01 buick

two things one you will either get no compression in the motor or you will get excessive knocking from the lifters adjusting the rocker arms properly will stop this . follow this link this will show you how to adjust rocker arms.

Can noisy Hydraulic roller lifters eventually turn into a loud knock. 4.0 motor

Possible. I have replaced the roller rocker arms and push rods because they get clogged and wear out both parts. I guess if left to long they would punch a hole threw the arms and knock alot louder.

Sound like a lifter knocking took off vaule cover all were ok not too tight not too lose just had head gasket replaced never knocked before that any other ideas top of motor is apart heads are off too

Your problem could be a lifter that's either pumping up or leaking down which wouldn't be evident when you check the rocker arms for play with the engine off. You can use oil deflector clips and a mechanic's stethescope to run the engine with the valve cover removed and isolate the lifter in question. If you had a bad head gasket and had coolant leaking into the oil, it's also possible that you're mistaking the sound of a bad rod bearing for a lifter noise. Hopefully it is just a bad lifter.

Moter knocks when i first start it then goes away

I had a chevy 2002 avalanche,2004 chevy tahoe both after 20,000 miles developed a mild lifter or slight bearing knock. When I confronted chevy with this problem they stated this was normal for the 5.3 liter v8.Being a mechanic myself didnt think this sounded right. My friend has a 2003 gmc yukon and motor sounded same way.I no longer own my chevy,But my friend still has yukon with 150,000 plus miles and yet it still knocks when you start it.this is just a problem with chevys and other gm products.

Lifters are knocking and there is a missing in

lifters tick and noise is upper end of engine if lifters are making noise could be from a bad valve, bad lifter ,push rod ,oil pressure, rocker arm - need to take do compression test find out if valve problem and which cylinder is problem also take off valve cover and check for proper oiling of valve head and look to see if and are damaged or loose-------a knocking sound usually comes from lower end of engine, rod knock etc.and thats usually rebuild of engine

The engine knocks at higher rpm, only at high rpms

First no matter what check the oil level and then if it's a high rev tapping you need to allow the oil to flow through the engine block to try to coat and settle your valves.

But if it's really " knocking " sounds like your lifters and rocker arms are allowing your piston rods to clatter and that needs to be looked into fast.
