What is the location of the knock sensors on a 92 lexus es 300
Need to remove the upper and lower air intake manifold. There are two knock sensors for the front and rear pistons banks. If you plan to do this yourself it is about 1 to 2 hours. While you are at it, there is a short coolant bypass hose sitting in the same spot, replace it. Another problem with the knock sensor is the wire harness used to connect the two knock sensors into one connection sometimes wears out and contacts the metal on the engine causing false signals to the ECM, so replace this cable also.
Just did this last summer on my 99 ES300. Pretty easy.

I found the solution to my knock sensor problem on a club lexus forum. hard wired my new knock sensors by cutting into the original wiring and connecting those wires to them and grounding them to the battery. the new knock sensors are positioned on my bracket in front the plenum.

I recently purchased an ES300 with the same problem. I have pulled off the upper intake and am removing the lower. The fix time of 1 to 2 hours is underestimated for an average mechanic. Plan on 4 hours min. since everything doesn't always go as planned. You will need a couple intake gaskets for the fix make sure you get all of the required gaskets before starting. Also I plan to get the wire harness since this can also be a cause of the failure as mentioned in earlier postings. You don't want to have to go back and replace the harness later trust me.
