Speedometer not working, could it be the instrument unit failing? Looking at wiring diagram the engine warning light connects to ECU & that appears to run fuel & sparks. Is there a speed input needed ( perhaps fed back from Instrument panel to the ECU I'm missing?) I'm going to check connections for moisture & continuity. Then take it to the bike shop for diagnostic error code reading to check sensors etc. Will it be ok to ride it with tlc? My first fear was that the Engine Oil was low, but a small top up made no difference & this engine has not a oil pressure sensor.

these cars have problems with bad oil pressure warning switches you may have someone put an oil pressure gauge on the car and make sure your pressure is within spec and go ahead and change the sender if it checks out please rate -jeff

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

well the issue is youe enitre gauge cluster i do understand that your speedometer is working but it is a cable speedometer not electronic like everything else in the gauge cluster so first i would recomend checking the voltage getting to your gauge cluster then just replace the guagecluster they are really cheap i a salvage and not hard to install at all but the cluster itself is not very comon to go out so make sure you check voltage to it first i wouldnt want you to go through buying and replaceing the cluster and that not fix it
